Wednesday evening my family and I decided to escape the wrath of Mother Nature and venture out for dinner at USA Steak Buffet in Washington PA. The four of us walked up the register and were instantly greeted by a nice young man that took our drink orders and told us our total. Upon hearing the total I realized that he gave my 11 year old daughter the price for the buffet for an adult and there is a discount for 11 and unders. He instantly apologized and went to retrieve his manager. It was quite obvious she was upset by having to assist us. She expressed this by saying, ""What are we supposed to do guess how old a child is?"" I am a manager of a team of 14 customer service agents and one thing I do not tolerate is customer abuse of any kind - so needless to say I was appalled that a manager would act in such a way. I retorted, “Perhaps if you properly trained your employees to ask the child’s age the parent would happily provide it to you and you wouldn’t be bothered to have to do your job.” She actually glared at me and said, “WOW!”. I then instructed her that this is not the way to act especially in front of her own employees and she should be setting an example of exemplary customer service – NOT showing them how to abuse paying customers. She corrected our transaction and escorted us to our table. The food was awesome, the waitress was polite, but the manager glared at us the entire time we were sitting in our booth. My two daughters (11 & 13) were made to feel uncomfortable walking up to the buffet and refused to go by themselves for fear she would say something to them. TO THE MANAGER OF USA STEAK BUFFET – I SAY, “YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF. Your employees should retaliate and take control of the restaurant. I am sure they would be better at running the place than you.”
