This place it the best!!!!! My husband is half Polish and I am Irish (don't worry all fellow Irish, my time is St Patty's day). A group of our family, (husbands side) drive 4 hours to Hamtramck just before Easter to get our groceries for our Polish Easter dinner. We go downtown to the meat market for our kielbasa, to make the famous borsch soup, onto the bakery for our rye bread, babka and cookies. Then its lunch time and we head to the Polish Village Cafe. Walking down the stairs into the basement you feel like you are stepping into the old world. The smells of Polish food along with the atmosphere are so relaxing. First off you have to order a Polish beer. You know the old saying when you are in another place, ""when in Poland do as the Polish do'. The server can help you on this one. She recommended a beer starting with the letter Z, I think pronouned Jivitz. However you say it, it was good. It was light in color, not a dark beer. You have to go for the sampler plate with mushroom soup and a side of City Chicken. You will get to taste all the classics in one meal. The cabbage roll is soooooo good, the flavor is savory, compliments everything else, the kraut is the best I have ever had, a little on the sweeter side, the perogie is perfect, the kielbasa is juicey and full of polish flavor. The City Chicken is not chicken, its pork on a stick, something you will not find anywhere else. When you are done you will be soooo satisfied you will want an order to go. The server was friendly, interactive and spoke Polish which made you feel you were somewhere else other than Michigan. As for the price, you get a great home cooked Polish meal for a great price, anyone can afford to go here. That's why its so packed, great food, great price, great place. For an experience in Polish food this is the place to go. Enjoy!!!!
