Billed $25 for ""annual equipment maintenance"". A contract provision I didn't like but the convenience of the Southern Village (Chapel Hill) facility was important enough to let it pass. I have spent many years in business and have never experienced such an indifferent and calloused approach to customer satisfaction. The facility itself is a pleasant place, but just another fitness center with their choice of brand for machines. I was required to give credit card information tor billing for the annual fee (wait a minute! I am already paying an annual fee for use of the facility!! A substantial amount I must say compared to others clubs I have joined in the past! Shouldn't that handle wear and tear on the facility?). The credit card caused the problem! In March, April and May my credit card was charged $25 and the payee was shown only as ""Checkfree"". Each time I challenged the payment to my bank which suspended it and asked me to check with Checkfree. I did. They had no idea why or who had charged my account. After the April charge I canceled my credit card and was reissued another. That is when I found out who the mystery biller using ""checkfree"" was: O2 Fitness!! I found out because I received a nasty letter from them saying the payment was not honored AND that I not only owed $25 but a service charge of $25! I marched to the club, immediately got a blunt ""you should have read your contract, we charge you a$25 fee, etc"" I got a number to call, called it, left a message asking that the call be returned. Never happened! The regular manager (off for her birthday the day before) had been called about the phone message I left and explained it was all a mistake, ""the computer did it!"". . THEN! in June, yep, another dunning letter! As far as I am concerned they broke the contract in a number of ways and I want a refund for 4 months of the year remaining (I foolishly paid in advance), HAH, they say! They did refund $50 they wrongfully appropriated! Pros: Good hours, clean, suitable equipment Cons: No frills at all! (Sauna, whirlpool, etc.)
