Review content:
I first went to this restaurant about 3 years ago and remembered it as being very good, as close to authentic as it could be here in PA, Mexican food. I'm not in this area of town often and had the opportunity to have lunch at El Campesino a couple of days ago. I don't know if the food quality has really gone downhill, or if I remember the food as being better than it really was, but we went with another couple and we all were disappointed. The food was truly uninspired. The sauces were bland and thin, the enchilada, burrito, and taco fillings just drive-through restaurant ordinary, there were frozen mixed vegetables in the rice (!), even the obligatory chips and salsa were not very good (the salsa think and watery, the chips greasy). Even the more ""special"" entrees, a cheese-stuffed chile poblano and a meat-filled chile relleno , were blah. What has happened? Well, whatever it was, we won't be returning. I can do better at home with a can of tomatillos, some chicken, a bunch of cilantro, and a package of commercially-made tortillas!
Pros: menu prices
Cons: just about everything else
