I think this place is really popular in part because a) there are so few places like it up in that neighborhood, and b) it's pretty affordable -- esp. for all those students on budgets. The place has it's charm and for the price, it's darn good. While several folks commented on the size of the portions, I thought they were what normal-sized portions should be -- this isn't Olive Garden, folks and we don't need McPlatefuls of pasta! Our group started with the olives and cheese bowl, which was plentiful and tasty and moved on to a little bit of everything: soup (minestrone, thick & hearty), salads (shaved fennel & parm - simple & very refreshing); pastas (penne with tomato & cheese - very good & fresh); meat (meatballs & polenta -- alas, this one was mediocre at best -- the meatballs were a little dry, the sauce thin, and the polenta too gelatinous); and fish (baked tilapia -- very tasty and satisfying) and dessert (coconut cake - our server wasn't kidding when she said it was really good -- moist but not too sweet.) As for drinks, they have a nice wine list in every budget, and the cocktails are tasty (I recommend the cucumber mint martini -- very refreshing!) The service overall was also good, altho maybe a little inattentive (we ran out of water, and no one came back with a new pitcher) but everyone was friendly. (On a final side note, our party wasn't all there when we first arrived and they still seated us... a pet peeve of mine when they won't seat you unless everyone's there.) I would definitely recommend the place. Pros: Prices; fresh, simple rustic fare; tasty cocktails Cons: Crowded & (not necessarily bad thing) younger crowd
