Review content:
Mills Peninsula has the worst billing deparment I have ever encountered. They do not itemize and you never know what your paying for, and you can't get any satifiaction from the staff. This last incident takes the cake. My husband had hernia surgery at Mills in November of 2005. Knowing that we would be recieving a bill, we decided to put off other medical procedures in order to save our flexible spending dollars to pay Mills. We received copies of several notices from our insurance company requesting additional information from Mills. We finally recieved the bill in September of 2006, 11 months after the surgery! Needless to say, we lost our flexible spending dollars. When we received the bill, I wrote to Mills asking why it would take 11 months to get a bill, I also enclosed a partial payment. I wrote two more letters requesting an explanation and sent two more partial payments. I finally received a letter from Mills, stating that it was our insurance company that was the problem. I wrote again, asking them to supply supporting documentation and I would take it up with the insurance company, again I enclosed a check. I have had no response, other than Mills turned the bill over to collection in January of 2007, four months after sending the bill and even though I had been making payments. J&L ( the collection agency) then wanted to charge interest going back to the date of the surgery! ( a supervisor did wave this). I ended up having to put this on a credit card to avoid a black mark on our credit. Please note that all other services for this surgery were billed, reviewed and paid in a timely fashion - it was only Mills that we had a problem with. If you are with Mills -- beware - and good luck.
Pros: Hospital Staff is fine
Cons: Billing Department is a nightmare
