Let me start by saying that Lamar Gayles is a CON-ARTIST.
June 5th, 2010 I sought out to have Lamar make me 2 dresses and a jacket for my 80's birthday party on July 23rd, 2010. I told Lamar that I would need these items completed by July 22nd and he ensured me that it would be ready before then. I walked into his so called place of business and gave him the down payment he would need to start the dresses and 1 jacket totaled at $950.00, I gave him $500.00 CASH!!! 3 weeks went by and he never called me for a fitting like he had promised so I called him and he gave me the run around saying that they are working on them and he would call me in a couple of days, couple of days went by and still no phone for a fitting and the date towards my party was getting close. I repeatedly called & called and I started to think that he deliberately ignored my calls and attempts to call with no call back either. I thought to myself okay back off he will call you, The week of my party I finally got in contact with him and he gave me the run around talking about he didn't know I needed the dresses in July when in fact I told him I needed the dresses by July 22nd, 2010 and he said that he would have them ready, what the hell does he think I was sweating him for?? After his failed promise to render services and the fact that he didn't conduct business well at all, I just asked for a refund, He said he would do something special for me, but I knew that was a crock of s**t. Unfortunately my aunt was sick and I was caring for her so I had to put Lamar on the back burner to tend to my family. keep in mind September had rolled around and still no phone call from Lamar, so I decided to call him and ask about the dresses and he still had none to produce so I said just give me my money back and he said ""the dresses are being worked on"" I said I don't want any of your business and he hung up, I called back and he hung up again. It is pretty apparent that he wasn't getting ready to refund my money after 4 months, keep in mind still no phone calls as he claimed to be working on my outfits. Finally in November I decided to take a trip up there and settle this in person and I brought along a friend for a witness if I ever needed to settle this in court. To my surprise he handed me a piece of paper and a business card with his home number on it and asked me to write my address down so he could mail me my refund in the form of a check, at first I was reluctant because he got cash but I just wrote it down and left, but then it dawned on me to make sure he knew that the amount was for $500.00, so I called him and to make sure my check is for the amount I gave him and he stated to me that he would be deducting for the leather he cut and when I asked for the leather of course he hung up. I stated to him if I am paying for it then I want it. 2 weeks went by and still no check. Finally yesterday I called and he blocked my numbers, so I decided to call the shop and he kept hanging up, I decided to use the home number he gave me anonymously and he answered and said the check was sent and I should have gotten it but I didn't, so he said he would check the status and call me back and when I asked when he of course hung up. Today 6 months later no dresses/jacket, no refund. Anyone crazy enough to give this guy any business after this needs their head checked. This guy is a shyster, a crook, and if there is no check by the end of this week I will be taking him to the small claims courts. I have already reported him to the BBB so I am waiting on the progress of that. His business is not legit. He will sell you on the fact that he clothed Shaq and Mo'nique but I am sure he wouldn't be giving these people the run around. Don't buy into this. He will take your money and rob you. He does not even tailor his clothes, he has 4 foreign women making his garments for him and he puts his label on them. Please think twice about giving this guy any of hard earned money!
