Review content:
In January 2010, I met with Evolution's Emily Gedney. At 44 years of age, my blood pressure was 140/90, weight 196, and body fat 20%. The blood pressure concerned my doctor and me. My weight had ballooned as my career responsibilities grew. I participate in long distance running events and ran my first marathon in 1996 with a goal of finish in 4:00:00. My time was 4:22. From 1996-2007, I completed 14 marathons with a goal of finishing under 4 hours. I was beleaguered by injuries, horrible weather, last minute mistakes, and diet issues. After a 3-year hiatus, I decided that 2010 was the year. Emily and I set goals. We monitored food intake, established a meal plan, and met regularly. I ran the Boston marathon in April at 183 lbs and finished in 4 hours 18 minutes and 29 seconds. Emily and I had to reset our plan and try again. We set our sights on Newport Marathon in October. I ran at 182 lbs and finished in 4 hours, 0 minutes, and 8 seconds. Only 1/3 of a second per mile short of the goal! On November 21st, I tried again in Philadelphia, this time at 181 lbs. I finished in 3:57:25. Finally, after 14 years and 17 finishes, I finally did it! With Emily's expertise in food management, I developed positive eating habits, had plenty of energy for both training and racing, lost 15 lbs, lowered BP to 119/72, reduced body fat % to 17.2%, achieved a 14 year goal and even learned to prepare low fat meals at home. Thanks Emily!
