Review content:
I went to file my taxes with Dorothy McNeil at Jiffy Tax Service. In regards to filing status, she offered me the option of filing as single, even though I told her that I was married. She told me that It doesn't matter, if I was not married for the full year. My wife and I, later, found this to be incorrect. In fact, the law is quite clear that you must declare yourself as married if you were married for even one day of the tax filing year. Upon this discovery, I approached Mrs. McNeil at Jiffy Tax and told her what I discovered. She told me that she was correct, and that I was wrong, so I asked her to look it up on the IRS website. She did. After seeing that I was right, she told me that she only prepared the taxes the way I asked, and that she would not offer me a refund. I told her that I only went with her recommendation, which was wrong. She said that ""we are done"" and asked me to leave. When I acquire the services of a tax preparer, I expect that the service I am receiving will not put me in fraudulent standing with the United States Government. If I had not checked, I could have been audited and potentially been sent to jail. DO NOT USE JIFFY TAX SERVICE!!! Cons: Unlicensed Tax Preparer who is unaware of the law.
