Needed service on our 2.5 year $1700 dollar Miele dishwasher, Miele paid for the part to be replaced, but it cost us $250 for the service call because we live 40 miles from the store. $200 for the serviceman to come and $80 an hour for the technician thank god my husband was on the phone with the Miele company to find out what the problem was or god knows what it would of cost to get this dishwasher fixed. They had us over a barrel because do we want to scrap the dishwasher or get it fixed. When we called Martin's they basically told us we should of purchased the appliance a little closer to where we live. They are the closest store that sells Miele products to where we live. Then when we complained about the cost of the service call they basically told us that is LIFE. They put all the stuff on their web page that a customer wants to hear, but when it comes to fulfilling those words they do stop short of the mighty dollar!!! RESPONSE FROM Martin Appliance: Thank you for taking the time to share your experience with us. We understand the frustration of high cost repairs and unfortunately our high cost of doing business. Our service rates are on a sliding scale based on where a customer lives. Our local customers rates start at $59 for the service trip and go up to over $200 depending on the geographical area. We do quote our rates before we send out a service technician and I understand that this was done in your case. Your 40 mile run is a 2 hour round trip for our technician. As frustrating as a $200 bill is for service the reality is that on the road service is an industry with very high overhead. Based on The Original Blue Book for major appliance service the rate for changing a Miele dishwasher control board is $504.81 plus the trip charge. That does include the cost of the part which Miele provided at no charge. While I will in no way even attempt to say you got a cheap rate it is what we charge to go to your area. I apologize that we were unsuccessful in negotiating a satisfactory rate when you called in and we would be happy to discuss this further.
