One of my Russian friends and I had a party around the corner from Basso 56 and searched for a restaurant to share a nice dinner with friends. I did citysearch and found Basso 56. Reviews were good so we decided to try it. What can I say? It was fantastic and far above my expectations. All the staff (from the beautiful pleasant hostess to bartender, manager, waiters, bus people) were friendly, helpful without being pushy. Service was outstanding. We didnt have to wait for drinks or food, timing was impecable. Ok, now to food. EVERYTHING we had was tasty (and I travel a lot in Italy and definitely appreciate good food). For appetizers we had freshly grilled calamari salad and caprese. Both were equally delicious and we savored every bite. Next came the main course: we shared crepes stuffed with seafood - unbelievable, and the night's special - lamb shank... meat was so tender and cooked to perfection. Unfortunately we didnt have any room left for desert, but I already told my friends this morning about it and we definitely coming back!!! Menu has such a great selection, I will have to become a regular to taste it all! :) Prices are very reasonable and not outrages, like many restaurants in New York. I highly recommend it for intimate as well as friends/family dinner. The place has it all.
