Review content:
Having gone to Uptown Coffee once a week for the past 8 years, I can truthfully say that this business is one of the unadvertised treasures in the city. The chocolate layer cake is so good that it is sold by Bistro 19 as one of its signature desserts. The freshly made scones (various creative flavors, such as chocolate chip almond or gingerbread or orange cranberry) are made with whole ingredients , perfectly crisp and top any in the city. The frosted sugar cookies are such a great combination of buttery and sweet that my friend in Florida insists on stopping at Uptown to eat one or two whenever she comes to town. The chai latte is not from a mix, but made with their own blend of spices (including oregano I believe) and is very spicy but not sickning sweet. Sometimes there is a wait, but people in line just turn around and start chatting with each other- is that so bad???? If you want fast and impersonal , you could try Mickey D's but that is not the place for me.
