I was eager to take my two favorite fellas (my son and boyfriend) to the movie and dinner on Monday, because of the rain, we could not go canoeing, We went to the 3:10 showing of the Expendables. I truly want you to understand that I am not a person who complains easily. It takes a huge effort on my part to speak up when I am upset. I first want to say that I appreciate that your location is in a very dynamic demographics and that your theater is perhaps a little older. I must compliment you on how well you have tried to maintain the property, and certainly the economic downturn has taken a toll on all businesses. But I must say I was shocked to walk into the theater where the picture was showing and the smell of a ""cat spray"" like odor was overwhelming at the entrance of the sub theater-room where the picture was showing. As soon as the doors closed and you have a choice of going left or right past the trash receptacles, it was putrid and overwhelming. When we got to the seats in the somewhat empty theater, it was easy to see the chairs and the upholstery and floors. The chairs were sticky and stained and filthy. The odor was very strong even 5 rows in from the front of the screen. The only reaction I had was disgust. I calmly excused myself from my company and went to the concession stand where the gentleman there was taking food and drink orders as well as receiving all the admission tickets to the separate movies. I waited a few minutes until there were no customers around and got his attention. He was wonderful and told me that he would get his manager, a young lady with brunette hair. She came with me and walked in the area and said in exasperation, I have no sense of smell and cannot smell a thing. She said that she would get one of the other employees over to see if they could smell the odor. Then she said, I am not a manager, but If you stay until after the movie, I can ""try"" to have someone available to talk to you. I did not want to stay away from my family while the movie was just beginning. My son did put his head on my shoulder during the movie and complained of being nauseated from the odor and not feeling well. It was uncomfortable and unpleasant. I know it's hard to control things when so many people today do not respect property and damage things. It almost seemed as though an odor that bad could have been an act of damage. I don't know. But that coupled with how nasty and sticky the seats were... I just have never had this kind of experience at Charlotte theater. Especially with the cost of Movie Tickets today.
