If you want a nightmare then rent from the Dermot company. They have buildings all over Brookly, Queens and Manhattan. I used to rent from them at 2305 30th Avenue.
In my 3 year stay there - the ceiling in the bedroom developed leaks and fell down. Repeated calls to the management company over 3 months were ignored.
The bathroom ceiling also developed leaks to the point that fungus was growing out of it. I had mushrooms growing upside down from the ceiling! Finally it too sagged and collapsed.
The only saving grace was the super - whom if I begged and cajoled would show up to fix the apartment after 5-10 phone calls.
I moved out 4 months ago and they still have not received my deposit back - these people are the absolute scumbags you can find in the real estate game. Their size and organization of their scam befuddles the mind.
Their whole company is organized to avoid all responsibility like maintaining and fixing their apartment buildings and extract as much cash flow from their operations as possible. In my building they would keep the heat off and the hot water at the lowest temperature permitted by law. In the mornings one would have to run the water for 10-15 mins before it would run hot!
The story is that the city has fined them for violations but they use every trick in the book to avoid paying the fines. Even when they were forced to pay the fine the amounts are piddling compared to the size of their violations.
Please do yourself and society a favor and do not rent from these people - they give all humanity a bad name.
