Review content:
This is my first review on Yelp. In fact, I signed up for Yelp just to post this review. Dermot is the worst management company in Manhattan. I've lived here for over five years with 3 different management companies. It truly is slumlord management. A few notes:
1) Don't bother trying to contact Dermot via phone. They will NEVER pick up. Instead, you will probably have to go down to their office in person where the receptionist will tell you to call to make an appointment. That is when you start shouting until someone in a position of authority hears you. This is probably the only effective way to speak to Dermot. That being said, most of us work during business hours and can't just go to Dermot, so your issue will probably never be resolved.
2) The buildings managed by Dermot are completely unsanitary. I have lived here for about 1 1/2 years and this is what we have experienced in our apartment:
a) Roaches in the apartment (large and baby sized)
b) Mold growing in the bathroom
c) Mice (they are a new addition - just arrived, more than one)
d) Bedbugs in the building
e) Rats that scurry into the common garbage bin areas and the basement (you see the lurking around the sidewalk and night and pray that you can make it up your steps before they attack you)
f) Ceilings falling in (yes, this is exactly what it sounds like)
g) the alleys really are deplorable. as i write this, 2 men are cleaning the alleys behind and between our buildings. they are both shouting about how this is the dirtiest cleaning job they have ever worked on.
3) Dermot charged late fees on our rent even though it was mailed on time. Tried to resolve the issue by sending them multiple notices. Six months later and the late fee still appears on our monthly rent statement. We spoke with some of our neighbors and they had the same exact issue. Perhaps Dermot was low on money and decided to charge all building residents a late fee this one particular month? I wouldn't put it past them.
In case you're wondering, I am a very clean person. My roommates and I should not be the targets of the gross things seen in our apartment. We clean regularly.
Bottom line: Spend that extra $100-$200 on rent and live in a building owned by, well any other management company in Manhattan.
