Review content:
10 years ago I loved this place. It's colorful, international in food an decor, and has a great beer and drink menu. However, the food has not been great for years. I don't know when the cooks changed, but it was more than a few years ago. Now it tends to pick up every food trend, good or bad, that passes through portland--gravy on fries, etc. I think it's supposed to have a pirate feel now--as in the cook of the ship isn't that great and food isn't that fresh. All we had today was a side order of fries and they couldn't get that right. They had the heat (barely warm) and texture (chewy) as if it was 20 minutes at least sitting out of the hot oil under a heat lamp. There were only 3 or 4 tables of people in the restaurant, how can you screw up fries?
They seem to pride themselves on bad service as well. Not only did they leave a pitcher of water on our table (read 'we don't want to have to come back to fill your water') but the waiter didn't even fill our first glass. We had to serve ourselves! The drinks are good and I will likely go back for those, after all, i can eat free peanuts while i drink
