Businiess name:  Gigi's Italian Restaurant

Review content:
I love the Tampa Bay area and during my last visit,I decided to return to Gigi's in Treasure Island, not having been there in 9 years. First thing I noticed was cramped booth seating.Yes, I'm a big guy but I would consider this to be cramped by most standards. My family and I were then subjected to what I consider one of my top dining peeves, a baby-talking waitress ! Yes,I used the politically incorrect term, waitress . I'm the type of person that doesn't care what my server's name is and don't like being spoken to informally by someone that I do not know and do not care to know. I have seen this baby-talking service style at other casual restaurants and really wish it would go away. Also after all the baby talking, she removed my son's drink for a refill and didn't return until called upon and reminded ! For starters, the salad was small, not so fresh and unimpressive, the blue cheese dressing seemed watered down.I didn't finish it.My wife had fried calamari and it was excellent.Lightly battered, crispy on the outside and cooked perfectly, this was the one dish that they got right. The accompanying marinara sauce was average.I ordered a pizza and was disappointed.First of all it was burnt on one side and too brown overall. The cheese, mushroom and green pepper were sparse and the pepperoni slices were the small spicy type, not my personal favorite. My wife had the stuffed manicotti with meatball which was on par with the frozen variety, whether or not that was the case,I didn't enquire. My son had the spaghetti and meatballs which also didn't appear to be fresh, was drowned in sauce and overall not as good as muellers, ragu and most frozen meatballs. The meatballs at Gigi's were large and appeared to be homemade but were mushy in texture and bland . I have had much better Italian food, even at Gigi's in the past. I also know that a good wait staff is almost impossible to find. This restaurant survives from the tourist trade as it is within walking distance of the resort hotels. Pros: Dimly lit, black ceilings, well kept aquariums Cons: cramped seating, average food, below average service
