Yikes is how I felt after this salon was done with me. I went in for a consultation for my curls and came out quite unhappy. To make a long story short, (which is what basically happened to my hair) I believe that if you are a curly haired person, you may need more than just a Ouidad trained stylist! I made an appointment with Sherry, who is one of the two Ouidad trained stylists there. She has been cutting hair for years and after our consultation, I felt willing to give her a go. I regret this. She told me that she could fit me in (which was very nice) to do a simple clean up job-remove some fried ends and make my curls better. My hair was just past my shoulders at the longest part. I was quite concerned about wanting to leave as much length as possible and she told me that she would cut a little at a time. She also told me that she would style my hair with the Ouidad products and show me how to make my curls better. This all sounded good. The next thing I knew I was under a dryer hood with the tightest, shortest hair I have EVER had! I was seriously scared for the first time in my life at a hair salon. When the super crunchy curls were done, she tried to pull them out but I was not left with much hair. It was clearly above my shoulders, rounded, and I felt very ugly with it. I almost cried. I have worked with my curls for years and I have never seen my hair look this short or tight! I was just about to stick it back up in a hair clip and call it a disaster when a kind man with great style named William came by. He asked me if he could help and he suggested that I dye my hair one color since my lighter ends (highlights growing out) were making my hair look even shorter and thinner at the ends. At this point I knew this would help and he has been the only hair stylist who had ever suggested that-but it made sense. So now I have darker hair almost black (It used to be a dark brown, but I really like it. It brings out my blue eyes more and I even like my curls better. He is an artist! He really saved the day for me!!! So my curls are short but healthier and my hair now looks thicker thanks to William. Overall, it was a scary experience and I end up having to pay for the color but not the cut. The moral of the story for curly girls is: Just because a stylist is Ouidad trained does not mean that she/he knows how to cut curly hair to look good with your face. I wish she would have just told me in our consultation that I needed a lot more growth before my Ouidad cut and that she would have just snipped off the tiniest bit of damage instead of giving my such short hair. Ouidad trained or not, good communication and a stylist who has cut curly, textured hair for a LONG time is the best. This salon has great products, good customer service, but you may want to stay away if you have curly hair.
