Have been going to Astor Place for 10 years. Until recently, I would have said that it is well worth it. The price is right, it's open 7 days a week, and, although i've had some favorites over the years, have also taken my chances with whomever they send me to with good luck. Until my last haircut, with a guy named Jose. STAY AWAY FROM HIM!!!! (He sits to the left of the guys who refer you to the stylists.) He completely ignored my instructions and butchered my hair so badly I was literally in tears. (And obviously, I'm not that fussy, or I wouldn't go to a place like Astor Place to begin with.) They gave me a credit for my next haircut, but it will take months to grow this mess out. Whatever you do, STAY AWAY FROM JOSE. HE IS A DISASTER.
Pros: Cheap, don't need an appointment
Cons: Without an appointment, you can get a really bad haircut
