Review content:
The owner or owner's son Marco was a real jerk. He was totally curt and unprofessional. My friend had her wedding reception here a couple of weeks ago and he made a lot of things very difficult by skimping on services he promised.
He eliminated a couple of the dinner options that people were expecting. When I mentioned to my friend that I thought there was a lamb and eggplant parmesan option for vegetarians and all we were offered was steak and salmon, my friend told me that those options were removed last minute because the owner said they had too many guests to accommodate everyone. That is so ridiculous. I've worked at catering restaurants for weddings and large groups and you do what you can to make sure everything goes as scheduled. You don't pull the rug from under them last minute, especially when you have a group of over 150 people. When some is spending that much money at your restaurant, you should go out of your way to make sure they are happy customers.
Another thing they did was if someone got up to mingle with guests or go to the bar, the waiters threw their meal out after 10-15 minutes. I mean, who eats that fast? And aren't you supposed to ask your guests if they are finished with their dinner before you take it away? The waiters threw out our tables dinners in 10 minutes when we went to the bar to get drinks. At least the brides family was nice enough to mention it so we got new meals back, although the waiters were grumbling about it. But they threw away a lot of perfectly good dinners that were barely touched. How wasteful. Honestly the steak was not even that good. I ordered mine well done but it had a lot of red in it, not even medium well. But at that point we really couldn't do anything about it and I didn't want to stress out the brides and grooms families any more than they already have been.
When the wedding cakes came, all the waiters did was display them and then they took them away to cut in the kitchen. The brides and grooms didn't even get to cut the first slice or feed each other like they traditionally do at weddings. Later on the bride told me they tilted one of the cakes too and had to cover it up. Then they told me that the restaurant threw out their cake toppers. Who throws out wedding cake toppers? If I was the bride I would be furious! That is supposed to be a memory of the wedding. I hope they have pictures of it at least. Marco should have known better than that. For such a well known institution, Alfred's Steakhouse should know better than that!
All in all we had a great time at the wedding because it was fun mingling with everyone, they had an open bar, a great DJ, lots of entertainment, etc. But I definitely would not recommend Alfred's Steakhouse for a wedding reception because of the bad attitude and how they treated their guests. I'm sure Marco does not treat his yuppie clientele the way he treated us. Shame on him.
Coming from someone who has worked in restaurants, hotels, hospitality, etc. I know the importance of providing excellent customer service. A happy customer will do repeat business with you. But an unhappy customer will tell at least 10 people about their bad experience. As for me, I'm telling the yelp community about it. Alfred's Steakhouse might be good for dinners I don't know. But they definitely need to learn about hosting weddings or large group events.
Do yourself , your peace of mind, and your pocketbook a favor:
TAKE YOUR BUSINESS TO SOMEONE WHO KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE DOING!
