My dog went into vet office on a friday 8 weeks preg. no problems whole pregnancy. healthy vet visits from Banfield 2/3 weeks prior. I just wanted to see how many puppies were expected. The 1st dr. does exam, takes x-rays. and tells me she looks fine, but i should expect the worse when it comes to birth. Something about "murphy's law". Kind of weird for me because my dog has been fine! Nothing wrong. Give me a medicine to kill a certain worm "in case" she had it and it was "healthy" for preg.moms. ok. Sat. morning, my dog is sick! Vomiting, won't eat, can't hold down water. NO FEVER. Sunday same. Monday. I take her in. They say she is dehydrated, want to run blood test to see whats wrong. I choose to just get the fluids. Again, thinking she is fine. Tues. Dr. Andrew calls, he figured they could all be dead(6 puppies according to x-ray) and causing her to be ill. maybe just one. Whatever the case, needs blood work done. Wed. vomit is black/green. I take her in for blood work. He says her white blood cell count is so high it won't register.1. emergency c-section w/spay. 2. treat infection(he doesn't think she will live) 3. put them all down. I choose option 3. They worked out montly payments.(nice) But now, they tell me all 9 puppies were born with heartbeats. they are "weak" not sure if any will survive. First 6 die. than the other 3. Than they tell me mom is doing fine. So far they have not treated her for infection because they have not run any test to see what she has. Yet, i was under the impression that was the reason for the blood work. Now my dog still might die? after all this? because you need more$ to diagnose her? "she might have parvo. Well my question is when was this contracted? because my dog did not get ill until we left your office on friday. Now im stuck with 1300 bill blood work done, and you still don't know what caused this "mysterious" infection that killed all her puppies? yet, mom now is doing better. I feel like it was all staged, but thats just too hard to believe. Im torn.
