someone from outtday.com called yesterday and informed my mother that she was on a list for them to come out and do an annual inspection of her electrical system. She's 78 years old and doesn't remember too well anymore. She agreed. The person that came out told her that her electrical panel needed to be replaced because she had a corroded screw and said t that it had to be done that day and gave her a quote for over $4000 and over $5000 (depending on warranty). She told her she had to turn off her electricity because it was dangerous. I handle my mother's finances, she called me. I told her absolutely not. She has a grandson who is a licensed electrician and owns his own company. I called him and he told me it was a scam. The lady told my mother she had to turn the power off because of the danger. But then she told her that she would leave some power on so that her phone would work because she realized she probably needed her phone. I showed up about 20 minutes after the lady left. No power was left on, her phone was dead and she left breakers hanging from the box. Our electrician had to come out and reinstall the breakers and turn the power back on. He said that the panel did not need to be replaced. It was a huge scam and could have potentially left my mother with no funds. I'm sick about it. I hope that people read this and know that this company marks their products up 200-250% and that they scare elderly customers into trying to believe they need something they don't.
