Review content:
I was at the end of my one year membership and had a lot of pre-paid visits remaining. I was told by the Myrtle Beach, SC Massage Envy that I needed to use those visits within 2 weeks or I would lose them. The front desk attendant suggested that I turn some of the pre-paid visits into 'transfer' certificates. I turned 3 of the pre-paid visits into certificates for an additional $10 per certificate ($30 total) and gave them as presents to friends and family at Christmas. One of the recipients recently scheduled a massage to use her certificate and she presented the certificate at check-in. When she finished the massage she was told that the certificate could not be honored because the person who gave her the certificate (me) was no longer a member of Massage Envy. I called the Myrtle Beach store to speak to the manager who confirmed that the certificates were no good if I didn't have a membership. When I told her that was never explained to me, nor was it in the Membership contract, she stated that she would be sure that her front desk staff learned about this as a training tool, but there was nothing she could do about it. Needless to say, I was angry that I was deceived in this manner. I lost 3 pre-paid visits at $49/visit plus $30 to turn those visits into transfer certificates. I was also very embarrassed that I had given these worthless certificates as gifts. I had to contact each recipient and explain that the certificates couldn't be used. I will NEVER go to another Massage Envy and will tell everyone I know about the company's deceitful way of doing business.
