Review content:
I've been a member of SSYC for about 5 years. It took me two years to show up because I'd heard it was a meat market - well, it is a MEET market. The people are so much fun. Ages @ 32-102, and thanks to generous skippers with power and sailboats, we get out on the water for free! You don't have to know how to sail or tie a line - they'll teach as they go. We do weekend races, raftups and potlucks and monthly trips to various points in Puget Sound.
We meet on the 2nd floor in the Elks Club out at Shilshole. Beautiful waterfront view with one of the largest real wood dance floors in Seattle!
We have dances - two in Oct and a Happy Hour Lounge after the meeting on non-dance nights. Some members play volleyball at Ingraham HS on Wed nights, and wallyball in Tukwila Friday nights.
Members have parties on their boats and in their homes. Some go skiing in the Winter. Some take cruises on chartered yachts (a group is in Greece this Fall, then some are going to Tahiti) - and as a group it's so much less expensive to cruise.
Overall, as a club we aren't perfect, but that's where you come in - we are always open to new members. One can be a Skipper, an Annual Member (for a mere $125 yr), or a Casual Member - pay at the door $7 for weekly meetings and $10 for dances (H'ween, Winter Ball, Valentine's are $15).
