Review content:
We went here on a Thursday night, party of 8, at the last minute, looking for a casual place to get a decent steak. Butcher Shop's schtick used to be a kind of fun "you can cook your own steak" concept, but didn't see anybody doing this, nor did the waiter offer this option. The decor is a bit tired, and the room was fairly empty. Bar service was quick and friendly. The waiter wanted to start us off with an appetizer tray that frankly didn't seem very appetizing, so we declined. He didn't seem really thrilled about that. He also seemed a little grumpy when most of us declined other appetizers or salads before dinner. (Not ringing up enough $$$ I guess) The steaks were decent, cooked to the correct temperature and everyone seemed pleased. Quality of the meat not quite "Morton's" quality of tenderness, but passable. Another waiter presented the dessert tray, and he was a much more friendly fellow - so I guess your experience here depends on the luck of the draw with the waitstaff. Bottom line - it's not a bad place to get a steak on I-Drive, but don't go in expecting a "wow" experience like a top of the line steakhouse such as Del Frisco's, Capitol Grille, Morton's, etc. Pros: Easy to get a last minute reservation, decent steaks Cons: Tired decor, waiter attitude could have been better
