Review content:
This is the first CitySearch review I have completed (in fact, it may be the only online review I have ever done), warranted only by the pathetic experience I just had at "Prestige" Barber Shop. It is clear to me that the overwhelming majority of the 60 five star ratings of this barber shop come from friends and family, rather than paying clients.
My experience: Sacha, the owner, who by the way has no resemblance to the guy in the picture on his web site, is the guy who cut my hair. I asked him specifically for a scissors cut, which to him meant scissors on the top and electric trimmers everywhere else. I also told him not to cut it too short, and he proceeded to cut it short on the sides and leave a bush on the top. When I asked him to take a little more off the top to even it out, he got offended and said "I did what you told me." Nice.
When I went to pay, I gave him the coupon that he has posted on his own web site. He said "this is for new customers only and I have cut your hair before!" and took a pen and underlined the fine print on the coupon. I said that if he had ever cut my hair, it had been a long time ago, as I have been looking for a good barber since moving back to the New York area a year ago. He said "then how did you know to ask for me when you called?!" I said I had found his web site after doing an online search and that I had also read comments about him on CitySearch. Unbelievably, he followed that up with "but this coupon is from my web site." Did he just say that? His finished with "I'm not going to argue with you over $3" and stormed out in a tiffy. I literally had to find him across the street to give him a tip. You can't make this stuff up.
Don't waste your time. This operation is sub-par at best, and Sasha does a far better job at online marketing than cutting hair. You can get a better haircut without the attitude for the same price at a number of places in mid-town.
