We just tried this spot for lunch and are definitely going back. The place is much bigger than it looks- it has a big dining room and wraparound patio, besides the pub in front. The low street visibility works to your advantage- you can tell these guys are really trying to build a reputation for themselves, one person at a time. The brunch roasts did look a bit tired when we got there, but we got there at probably 1:30 or later, so whose buffet roast does look appealing after who knows how long in that nasty orange glow?
The calamari appetiser was delicious, with tiny onion slices and calamari rings in a very obviously house made batter- nice and light. My culinary student lover and I both aggreed there was a distinct possibility that the delicious (though plain) mayo was house made. The deluxe burger was a celebration in gluttony, and the garlic fries were delicious, though I don't think they come standard. The beer was fantastic, especially the nut brown special we had and the Sac-squatch. Pints seemed to run about $4.50, but you can upgrade to a 22 oz for a buck. The cocktails menu looked great, but the location pretty much mandates a car, like every other bar out here in the burbs- if you can get home safely after, I'd try em out. Free darts on the patio, too. Our server, Robert, was attentive, eager to make us happy, and gave good suggestions. We both agreed he'd been well trained in the art of the upsell, but hey, that's just another sign that the place is well run and managed. We found coupons with a little looking through the mail at home.
Oh, and after you try this place, try it's two neighbors- Izumi and Mama's Korean BBQ- to complete your understanding in how good things happen to those who eat at unassuming-looking neighborhood spots. You're welcome.
