I would rate this zero stars, but that wasn't an option. Stay away! We bought a puppy from Potomac Kennels. We had been frequent visitors and were under the impression that they only brought in puppies from the highest quality breeders and purebred. The puppy was top dollar, more than the going rate of breaders who offered dogs of show quality and you could visit their homes and see where the puppies were raised. When we took the puppy to the vet, we first learned she was not a purebred, but a mix. She also was sick, intestine and urinary infections so far. More tests are being run. Based upon the AKC papers provided by Potomac Kennels, we researched on the internet the breeder. It was so upsetting. A puppy farm. Hundreds of dogs kept in kennels outside even below 30 degrees farrenheit. We further found multiple violations identified in UDC inspections, recent and dating back 4 years. Among the violations, small kennels over packed with dogs, dirty food, dogs kept outside in the cold in dirt ditches so the kennels were partially underground, medications were expired and the breeder was using a large syringe to administer boosters to multiple dogs without changing or sanitizing needles. Many other heartrbreaking violations detailed. You would think Potomac Kennels would do some due diligence on their suppliers. Despite the substantial price we paid, we definitely "rescued" this animal. Our children have bonded so insisting on a refund is difficult, and in any event Potomac Kennels refused to accept obvious evidence of extreme negligence on their part.
