When I am looking for a dependable jeweler and goldsmith, I head over to Wayland! I have done a fair amount of business there, and highly think you should see for yourself. I have had jewelry repaired there, bought jewelry, had appraisals done, and my best experience was having a custom made wedding ring set made for me! Mr Vilenski's work is awesome, and his prices are very reasonable. The work is done on sight, not sent out. Both he and his wife take the time to explain things to you and serve you with small town friendliness and charm. If you are serious about investing in jewelry, head to downtown Wayland--they are located in a cute little yellow house next to the library.
