Review content:
The last time I was shopping for cars was back in 2006. I was shocked to find a car I had always wanted, a Lexus SC 400, in my price range. I was told up front that this was a salvage title, that the car had been stolen, the owner's insurance paid out and then the car was recovered, all of which I was okay with.
What I am NOT okay with is the shock I got once I received the pink slip today. The car was listed, in writing and on my contract, as having only 94,321 miles on it. In the past 5 years I've only pushed that to 124 thousand and change. The pink slip, however, tells me that at the time of purchase, my impulse buy really had 174,069 miles on it pushing the total to now over 200 thousand miles.
Knowing that my car was 17 years old, I knew things would start going wrong. Being lied to for the grand total of almost 80,000 miles and the accompanying missed services made things so much worse. Since my job situation has worsened and my credit too, I needed all the trade-in value I could get and that trade-in value is now almost non-existent.
I accept that I needed to have checked things out more. My bad. But do you really want to trust a dealership that rolls back odometers?
