Review content:
My husband and I have lived in this area for 25 years and took a friend visiting from California to Tunk's in late February. This was our first visit to the highly advertised restaurant. My friend and I ordered seafood gumbo and my husband got the boiled crawfish platter. We live on a fixed income and this was a huge splurge for us, huge. Our bill was over $80.00 including the tip. The salad bar was okay, but that was the only menu item that was. The gumbo was totally inedible. I've lived all my life in Louisiana and cook a mean pot of seafood gumbo, but we expected their highly touted 'secret recipe' gumbo to be of superior quality. The gumbo had a HORRIBLE, nasty, chemical aftertaste (like melted plastic perhaps?) and had nothing in it but a few small shrimp---no okra, onions, celery or belpeppers. It was like an unpleasant, grainy, gritty gravy with a few small shrimp tossed in and microwaved. Unfortunately, I'm not the type of person who returns food to the kitchen (which I should have done, in retrospect). I was embarrassed to have my friend eat such horrible food from the so-called "best" seafood restaurant in the area. As I said, she and I both ordered the gumbo (she had never before eaten gumbo) and both bowls were inedible. My husband's expensive order of boiled crawfish was mediocre. The crawfish were small, undercooked and mushy. We got our hushpuppies at the END of the meal. I complained by email to the owner a month ago and they said they would send me a coupon for another visit. I have yet to receive it, but if I do, I will send it back and not even waste my gasoline to drive back there.
