If you are looking to get an instant sugar rush, a great big, creamy-frosting topped cupcake is definitely a fun way to go, and Cupcake Royale should be at the top of your go-to list!
With four stores throughout the city, each cafe is unique to the vibe and feel of the neighborhood. Step inside the Capital Hill Cupcake Royale, and you will quickly realize that it is not like any of the other locations. The space is a lesson in juxtaposition; the industrial feel of the exposed ductwork and edgy art installations contrast with the Neapolitan color scheme; brown, pink and white. All of the seating and tables are painted one of their three signature colors, reminiscent of a classic chocolate cupcake with white frosting and pink sprinkles. Behold The Kate cupcake!
The menu choices consist of white or chocolate cake with various icing flavors. In addition, there are three specialty cupcakes: Carrot Cake, Red Velvet, and the heavenly Salted Caramel. A special cupcake of the month rounds out the options. While the menu may be simple, there is nothing simple about these morsels of sugary sweetness. With fun names like Royale with Cheese, Orange You Glad, and Peppermint Party, coupled with the recently retooled recipe to make them “more moisty-er,” these personal cakes of goodness are sure to make you smile.
Join them for one of their Sprinkle Parties for even more cupcake fun. Frost and decorate your own cuppie with a full bar of sprinkles and toppings. Bring your friends and a bottle of wine, and the staff will make sure it’s a smashing good time. Also a great children’s party idea, though minus the wine of course.
It’s not all fluff and butter cream here though; these are cupcakes with a conscience. Cupcake Royale is a strong activist in social justice and focuses efforts on sprinkling goodness throughout the community. Using local, sustainable ingredients, composting/recycling, and making donations to non-profits are just a few of the ways they give back to the city that loves them so!
