Good cuts in a civilized setting 8/20/2005

One of a few Jeffrey Stein uptown salons. This is where I go for a well-cut, professional style. I might not go here for a very special 'do (see below), but they are solicitous and do a nice job. The multi-colored slate design at the Columbus/84th location has a grown-up, soothing feel, and it matches the earthy tones of the Aveda products crowding the front window. They do nice blow-outs. Usually I skip this due to my fast-drying straight hair, but at Jeffrey Stein I find it is worth sitting in the chair for 5 minutes more. As for the adventurous jobs - DON'T GO HERE! I have heard horror stories from friends and neighbors of highlights gone awry and stylists who completely misinterpret complicated requests into irretrievably wrong cuts. Also, be very clear with them exactly what you do - and don't - want. They seem to use the presumptive approach to salesmanship - perform a service first without asking and make the customer pay up after. Again, come here for basic cuts, but go elsewhere if it's a special cut. more
