Cuban Coffee with sinfully delicious desserts 8/21/2005

El Diablo Coffee Co. is located on the top of Queen Anne Hill onthe main boulevard of Queen Anne Avenue. The atmosphere is, well, demonic in a "Carnival" sort of way. After all, "el diablo" is spanish for the devil. The walls are covered in brightly painted folk art depicting of course El Diablo and other legendary figures. Each table depicts it's own theme or scene. These folks are fabulous with java, (Okay, so a Cuban coffee is really just the Cuban version of a carmellized shot or two of expresso.) and the desserts truely are sinfully good. They also do sandwhiches, salads and soup, all with a Cuban influence. I figure the "devil" theme is to poke fun at the fact that we as a mass culture decide that desserts and caffiene are unhealthy, yet we're going to consume them anyway. However, if you think the theme of the folk art would upset you, don't go, there's always a Starbucks around for a nice sterile unoffensive environment. more
