Editorial review from Citysearch 1/23/2014

The cupcake CAKE is good but the frosting hurts my teeth. I'm not sure what all the crazy flavors are about, I'm kind of a cupcake purists. Give me a vanilla with solid, not too sweet, butter cream and I'm happy. At that, Yummy fails. I'm all sad face now. more

Hit or Miss 6/30/2011

I've had one bad experience here, and one knock-you-out-of-your-chair good experience here.\r \r BAD: I bought a cupcake here that was dry and a little bland. I mean, come on people, the cost of the ingredients for each cupcake is about 47 cents. Every hour, throw the stuff away, and start fresh. We're paying three dollars, so come on. There have to be volumes written about this in food service publications. \r \r Also, I find it odd that there are never the same people working here. That's just weird. I assume they have turnover issues, which makes for some serious expenditures in training and supervising.\r \r GOOD: I had the greatest cupcake of my life here last week. The Frozen Banana Cupcake was a revelation-- A moist vanilla cupcake with banana flavored icing, or vice versa, dipped in a hard shell coating of firm rich fudge-like chocolate and sprinkled with almond bits. Just spectacular. Elegant beyond belief. A triumph.\r more

GREAT CUPCAKES 10/4/2010

I am a cupcake enthusiast. This is definitely one of the best next to Sprinkles. I don't know what everyone has against Sprinkles, but anyway this place is just as good. I suggest you put the cupcakes in the refrigerator for half an hour, it makes the icing firm, which I think makes it easier to eat and it's delicious! Oh but everyone is right about the service. Unless you're the ONLY one there, service is soooo slow! It's like they ignore other customers until it's your turn. They don't consider the line. It's not a big deal unless you're in a hurry. more

best cupcakes in LA 1/15/2010

I've never liked Sprinkles in Beverly Hills. Their frosting was always way too heavy and sweet. I have been to Yummy dozens of times now and had most of their flavors. I have never had anything but the perfect cupcake. So delicious! Their ""old school"" is my favorite flavor. Pros: great flavors, super moist, great frosting Cons: can be kind of slow more

great chocolate goodies 6/28/2008

Nieghbors of ours recently visited the LA area and brought us back a box of Chocolate Truffles from the Yummy shop They were great. Come to find out that my cousins are the owners of the business. Their Dad and myself were long time firends starting in college. The coincidence plus the delicious Truffles was wonderful. Our best wishes to the Yummy crew!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!\r \r Al Soforenko more

Dry Cupcakes 5/30/2008

I love cupcakes and had searched for bakeries that specializes in cupcakes after having tried several excellent ones throughout Greater L.A. I came across a listing for Yummy's that touted great cupcakes and tried it over the weekend, but I was highly disappointed by their dryness. I had purchased 5 different types and all had the same dry texture so I won't be going back, especially when each of the cupcakes were about three bucks a piece. more

good, not sanitary. 5/29/2008

I think they are very good. My friend thinks they are too sweet. I do agree with another poster that they are not sanitary. Last time I was there I saw a server take some extra mint frosting off the side of a displayed cupcake and lick it off her finger. I guess she thought nobody was looking. Pros: yummy Cons: not sanitary more

Good cupcakes, but kind of far away from it all 5/22/2008

Unless you live in or near Burbank, Yummy Cupcakes is a bit of a drive. I'm from the downtown L.A. area and normally stick to the Beverly Hills and West Hollywood areas for food outings. Even though the cupcakes here are good, the icing was very greasy. It may be worth a stop if I'm in the area already, but definitely not a whole trip. Prices are very reasonable though! Pros: Price Cons: Location, greasy icing more

Yucky cupcakes 5/6/2008

On the day of a big meeting I had I went into Yummy Cupcakes, after having left Auntie Em's in Eagle Rock with nothing due to issues with ""cleanliness"". I had only heard about Yummy from my Post Office and they said it was better than Sprinkles in Beverly Hills. Sprinkles handles a lot of my business, so with me in a bind, I thought I would give them a try. It looked clean - how can you screw up a cupcake. Long story short, the cupcakes were horrible. I was so embarrassed to have brought those into the studio. The icing was disgusting. Cupcakes from the grocery store are better. Pros: Nice Service. friendly Employees! Ample parking! Cons: Yucky cupcakes! more

Good tasting but not sanitary. 2/20/2008

Cupcakes are sweet but dry, with the flavoring coming from the icing. Hugh choice of variety, but service is a little slow. They are not sanitary. I saw a server taking fresh cupcakes from the oven and putting them on the counter with her bare hands, and the servers put the cupcakes in the boxes without plastic shields or gloves, just their hands. Pros: Wide variety of cupcakes, parking, friendly. Cons: unsanitary, slow service. more

Crummy Cupcakes 1/9/2008

I can't believe this place was considered the best of Citysearch. I've tried several cupcakes from Crumbs in Beverly Hills, Violet's in Pasadena, Auntie Em's Kitchen in Eagle Rock, and The cupcakery in Las Vegas and they are way better compared to this bakery. Not only was the service slow (we waited 15 mins to get our cupcakes when there was only one lady ahead of us who ordered 5 cupcakes) and unfriendly (the girl in the tattoo didn't even want to help us) but the place smelled funny and was stuffy inside. Furthermore, the cleaning mop was in plain view behind the cupcakes. Despite the service and aesthetics, I also had the worst cupcakes in the world. The cupcakes were extremely dry, bland, and hard as a rock. Most of the taste came from the frosting, which was too sweet. The cupcakes I make from store bought powder mix are even better than what this place had to offer. However, I must acknowledge that of the four cupcakes I had, only one was decent (the one with fudge inside), not excellent. Because of the inconsistent quality of the cupcake, I do not recommend this place to anyone. Eating a cupcake from here is a waste of calories and a huge disappointment. If you're in the area and have a sweet tooth, skip this place and head down to Porto's, which is on the same street where the baked goods are amazing. Pros: promoting the cupcake craze Cons: cupcakes do not taste good, slow service, looks dirty inside more

Pretty Bad 1/7/2008

Yummy Cupcakes was nothing compared to Sprinkles in Beverly HIlls. I tried the chocolate chip cupcake at Yummy Cupcakes and it was sickeningly sweet. I couldn't even get to the cake part because the frosting was so overpowering. It just tasted like globs of sugar mixed with a little bit of butter and smothered over an average cake. It was definitely not worth the calories nor my time. Pros: parking Cons: unfriendly service, poor quality cupcakes more

BEST CUPCAKES I'VE EVER HAD, FROSTING IS BUTTERCREAM LUST! 10/3/2007

I'M NOT MUCH INTO CUPCAKES BUT PULLED OVER AND HAD A GO. i'M SO GLAD I DID! I ATE LITERALLY 3 IN A ROW. THE FROSTING WAS SOOOOOOOO GOOD! IT WAS BUTTERCREAM PERFECTED. FORGET ABOUT THOSE CHEAPY, SUGAR CLOYING MESSES YOU BUY AT SUPERMARKETS. THESE ARE THE REAL DEAL! I ESPECIALLY LIKED THE CHOCOLATE CAKE W/ CHOCOLATE FROSTING. DON'T GET ME STARTED ON THE CREAM CHEESE FROSTING, IT WAS SINFUL! I CAN SAY I FIND REASONS JUST TO DRIVE DOWN MAGNOLIA TO PULL IN! more

The best cupcakes! Period! 7/26/2007

While I was in Santa Monica this past Sunday (7/22), I saw the store and decided to stop in. How glad I was that I did! I've tasted cupcakes all over the world from London's Hummingbird Bakery to New York's Billy's Cupcakes to Beverly Hills' Sprinkles, but yours were by far the best! I enjoyed the red velvet so much I almost cried! The cake is so moist and the icing is just right...I felt like a little kid on Christmas! I'll be back as often as possible! more

TERRIBLE!!!! STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE!!!!!!!!!! 7/15/2007

If you want to spend your 3 bucks on sugar shaped like a cupcake this is the way to go. Dry and over rated. If your type of cupcake is one that will give you toothache in an instant, this is your sure bet! It's so disappointing to hear all the hype and actually being excited to taste them all for waste of money. I was in a party last night, good thing someone brought a couple boxes from Wholesome Cakes - very divine and sweetness was spot on! Organic, but costs less! We ended up throwing Yummy's in the trashcan. Pros: Nice cupcake place. Cons: They can do so much better. more

If you like DRY cupcakes, this is for you! 7/14/2007

Highly overrated! I went to Yummy Cupcake (Burbank) for the first time today and bought the Red Velvet and Old School cupcake. They put the cupcakes in an oversized box so by the time I got home, both cupcakes were upside down, and it's not like I was throwing the box around on the drive home. Both cupcakes were very dry and NOT tasty. I don't know if they were overcooked or old, but cupcakes made from boxed cake mix are much more moist and a lot tastier. I love my sweets, but I'm never going here again. Pros: Good service, cupcakes LOOK pretty, lots of street parking Cons: Cupcakes TASTE bland, very dry, highly OVERRATED more

Awesome Cupcakes 7/14/2007

I had a giant sized Yummy cupcake and it literally blew my mind. I am not kidding when I say I almost had to sit down to finish it. If you love cupcakes and I mean love them, this place can't be missed. more

Yummy Cupcakes...Big On Variety....Short on Taste 7/13/2007

If the cute shop, the fun flavors and big variety are all that you're looking for in a cupcake, then Yummy Cupcakes is fine. But if you're looking for a good tasting cupcake, there are only about two or three flavors that fill the bill...Red Velvet and the lemon varieties. The ""Old School"" (take-off on the Hostess Cupcake) and ""Cream Puff"" might be good if there was more than a smidgen of tasteless cream inside. They also had a chocolate flourless topped with whipped cream once or twice that was better than all of their cupcakes and they never had it again. I had asked someone who I'm guessing was an owner why they didn't have it anymore. Her reply was, ""It's just not what we do."" What? Make good cupcakes? If you look at their web site it lists all the gourmet ingredients and mentions the bakers are prestigious culinary graduates, etc. If that's the case, then Pillsbury and Betty Crocker are what they're teaching these days. The vanilla cupcake tastes like it's made from a mix... heavy, not fluffy and not good. The chocolate is better, but then there's all the sticky sweet icing piled high that ruins it. I guess they need to justify the $3.00 charge and are not taking into account that less would be more. That's why the Red Velvet is better, because it's cream cheese frosting. I guess for L.A. Yummy Cupcakes is considered decent, but if any of their happy customers ever visited a bakery in New York or any decent bakery for that matter, they would see the difference between a Yummy Cupcake and a truly good cupcake. more

Cupcakes to die for 7/12/2007

Having been a connoisseur of cakes, and remembering cupcakes as a school birthday treat, I was skeptical that a cupcake could match even a generic cake. Wow, was I wrong!!! After a day of shopping, I was reluctantly persuaded by a friend to try a Yummy Cupcake cupcake before returning home. It was the most enjoyable dessert treat that I'd had in years. In fact it was so good that I bought a dozen of various kinds to take home to my family. Every single flavor was a winner. In fact, cupcakes from Yummy Cupcakes has become a weekly pilgrimage for my family and me. Thanks, Yummy Cupcakes - you're the best!!! more
