Your basic pet supply store 8/16/2005

Your Basic Bird is a really cute pet store located on College Avenue in Berkeley. They have the usual array of cat, dog and bird food, and they also have live small pets for sale. They almost always have cute kittens or bunnies in the window, and the back of the store hosts a myriad of squawking birds. It is fun to visit them, especially the larger parrots. I rated Your Basic Bird as "good" because they hardly have any cat items available. They have a lot of dog toys and food, but not much for our feline friends. I do like to browse the store however, and they have rats, mice, guinea pigs and chinchillas to look at. more

... love this place! This store specializes in pet birds. The staff here is friendly and incredibly knowledgeable. They take excellent care of their birds and can help you do the same. The store is filled with the chirps of parakeets, finches, lovebirds, parrots, and cockatiels. They also sell food, cages, and lots of toys for our feathered friends. more

  • Our fascination with birds began as a hobby in the late 1970's with finches, lories and hanging parrots. When Claudia & Bob purchased Your Basic Bird in 1981, the hobby had become their business. Your Basic Bird's primary focus has always been birds but they offer a full line of dog, cat & small animal supplies and other companion animals (rabbits, guinea pigs, rats & hamsters). After 38 years the fascination is still there and we continue to learn more about birds ever day. Claudia always says that this passion for these amazing creatures is "in your blood". Once you have experienced birds it is difficult to imagine life without them.
