Xtreme bean is one of 3 coffee shops at the intersection of McClintock and Southern (the others being Starbucks and Gold Bar). It has a very Starbucks atmosphere (leather chairs, earthy tones, those kind of little Ikea-ish lights that hang from the ceiling), but it doesn't attract the typical Starbucks crowd. There are ASU students, the alternative crowd from McClintock High School, Grace Community Church soccer moms, and retirees. It has free wireless Internet, and so there are always lots of folks with laptops hanging out there. The coffee is good (try the toddy sometime!), and they have lots of iced drinks to make those Phoenix summers bearable and caffeinated. It has a drive through, which seems to be pretty popular (I've never used it). The staff is friendly and courteous, and they keep the place pretty clean. I find that it gets a little noisy at night (louder music, a bigger crowd), but for those who like a nice place to read the paper or do some work, it's a good place to go during the day.
