The first thing one notices is the smoked haze room. Then the wonderful waft of bbq will tickle your senses, signaling the first taste of your hunger.
At this restaurant, meat is grilled at your table. Before the entrees arrive, they bring out flaming wood chips here. This is the only place, that I am aware of, that does this.
Just about everything on the menu -- stews, casseroles, pajeon -- all good here. Best meat dishes to order: bulgoki, kalbi and chicken. All succulent and tasty! They even cut and cook the bones for you to suck on the marrow.
I would just stay away -- unless you're a fan -- from the cow tongue. This is one example of something looking better than it tasted: thinly sliced meat, beautifully presented in layers. You're expectations are high then quickly sink once you've tasted and chewed on the fatty-grease like texture of cow tongue.
If pan chan (complimentary side dishes) is your thing, this place more than fits the bill. They offer plenty, and, more than likely will surpass your expectations: plenty rounds of white kimchi, sliced and pickled radishes and carrots, steamed eggs, pickled roots, kim chi, bean sprouts, chicken salad, the works!
I also have to mention that the staff is especially attentive and helpful. Someone is always around to check on your grill, stir it up a bit, replenish you glasses of iced barley tea. Excellent service.
Best to arrive on an empty stomach.
Warning: after a meal like this, one may smell like they've been living in a bbq pit, marinated and slow-cooking for hours.
