Excellent restaurant 12/2/2009

I love traveling to different cities and trying out the best of the best restaurants. Wild Sage is really good and I think its even gotten better over time. Spokane is a small city and as such doesn't have that many nice restaurants to choose from but I would rank Wild Sage as a nice option. The food is fresh (from their organic farm), surprising (usually pairings) and satisfying. Their cocktails are excellent, try the Wild Sage or Cucumber Quince martini's, yum. I LOVE LOVE LOVE the popovers served at the beginning of dinner. Apparently they have a self help group on thursdays for those addicted to these delectables, The service is very good. If you go there be prepared for a nice evening. It won't knock your socks off but it will be very nice and you won't break the bank. Pros: Excellent Food, drinks with polite and prompt service Cons: None worth mentioning more

Far better than expected 10/27/2008

My wife and I travel for business frequently and have dined at some of the country's best from coast to coast and when we stopped over Friday night in Spokane on our way to the game at Wazzu I decided to try something other than our usual choice in Spokane, Spencer's. This little place on second ave knocked us out! Found it on Citysearch (thank you!) and it exceeded our expectations. If you go here, be sure to Break Bread to start your meal, you get different breads and crackers with all sorts of good things to schmeer on, like a chile pate', and things like small skewers of roasted garlic with mushrooms, tiny ""ground cherries"" to enjoy as well. We split a small plate of terriffic mini tacos (would have been a great large plate) and I had the oysters and she the prawns with angel hair pasta and all was very good. The sauce on her pasta was great (yes, I got to finish hers) and the prawns were big and juicy. The oysters were done perfectly with an unusual but delicious coating. Rayce provided us with excellent service as well, attentive but not to. He was always there when needed. Prices very reasonable for what we got. Highly Recommened! Can't wait to go back. Pros: Great food, service, ambience. Parking next door for only $4 Cons: We had no negatives more

Best restaurant EVER! 10/20/2008

Oh my goodness this was one of the best restaurants I have ever been in. The decor was warm and inviting, and the winerack was devine. The staff were friendly and attentive. I had the Oysters, which were so delicious they made my tongue spasm. The pommegranite spritzer was refreshing and got just the right spot. Even though it was a bit high in price, I have been to a lot of restaurants in other places that were alot more expensive for food that wasn't nearly as good. The next day I went back for lunch, and was equally impressed, and the price was perfict for what I ordered. I would pay anything to have their Merlot gravy all the time. I would recommend it to anyone and will definately be returning in the future. Pros: Service, Food, and pretty much everything else Cons: Parking was a little difficult, but understandably so more

My favorite restaurant in Spokane! 10/14/2008

I often travel to Spokane from Seattle for business and to visit my best friend. We never miss an opportunity to dine at Wild Sage. Since it opened I always return for the classic Liver & Onions (this aint Grandma's liver & onions). I also love the calamari with house made kim chi. The hand crafted cocktails are the best anywhere. Try the one with persimmon infused gin and cucumber! I dream of that one. Other favorites are the seasonal choices of fish. Always something interesting that I haven't tried before. I love the attention to seasonal ingredients. I also really appreciate that Chef Alexis chooses only the freshest, in season ingredients. A real farm to table experience. Pros: everything! Cons: It's not in Seattle, down the street from my house! I have to drive 4 hours to go there. more

Wild Sage - Great Place for a Saturday Night 10/5/2008

The moment we walked into the wild sage we felt a warm connection. Our dinner experience was excellent - the whole evening was full of great food and lot's of well managed details in service and a lovely french bistro style set up. We started with fried green tomato & crab remoulade, and wilted spinach salad w/ candied pecans and buttermilk blue cheese crumbles. Both apps looked and tasted great, the warm vinaigrette salad dressing and the perfectly golden crisped sweet green tomatoes carried both of the dishes. Our waitress did a fine job of walking trough our meals, she had eaten all the items on the menu and described them with a confident familiarity - she represented the food wonderfully. We proceeded to order a basket of homemade breads and crackers with spreads and dipping oils, mesquite charred ahi tuna, lamb chops, sausage gnocchi gratin and a wonderful house made ice cream with caramel toppings. We're in Spokane 6 times a year and usually eat out once each visit. We we're extremely impressed with the well managed details in the menu and the restaurant in general - it seemed every plate coming from the kitchen had an interesting creative combination and was put together with care - you kind of got the impression that this was a standard not just a good night for the kitchen. Everything we ate was prepared well - the fresh baked pull-aparts, breads and crackers, ahi tuna and gnocchi I look forward to going back for.. . Typically we are adventurous diners that like to try new things and appreciate restaurants taking some chances with the menu. The wild sage does this really well and it's obvious they have some experience in doing this. Prices are on the high end for Spokane, but great value in return, and reservations were needed the Saturday evening we were there. We'll be back and tell our friends. Pros: Hi end creative food and menu options, great ambiance Cons: Pricey and rich more

Great customer service!!! 9/29/2008

My husband and I travel to Spokane yearly to visit family and friends. One of our stops is ALWAYS the Wild Sage Bistro. We have continually enjoyed exceptionally fine food, friendly atmosphere, and prompt service. We have never had a complaint or disappointment whether it be lunch or dinner with a small group or a large group. We have organized reunion dinners with college friends, ladies only dinners, and family dinners. We have taken special people in our lives for lunch on more than one occasion and always had wonderful experiences. We tend to linger and have never felt rushed. We love the cozy atmosphere, the wonderful cocktails, the delicious food, the great service....just wish the Wild Sage were closer to Louisville. Pros: Service, Quality and variety of menu selections, easy parking more

Best Resturant in Spokane 9/29/2008

I would chose this restaurant over any in Spokane for many reasons. First and foremost, the menu and care given to each dish is superb. Every dish is made with the freshest produce, herbs or ingredients available. I like the fact that the produce is obtained from farmers locally when possible. Pros: Creativity, Service, Ambience, and Great CocktaiIs Cons: Not open Sunday more

Welcoming, Individualized and Uses Local Produce 9/25/2008

This restaurant goes well above and beyond in their desire to serve high quality, naturally flavored food that satisfies health needs as well as taste buds. They take great care to listen to their customers and adjust to the variety of food restrictions. Chief Alexa's creative tallents and attention to plating regularly produce nice surprises, ""wow, look at that!"" and flavorful meals, Chief Gare's breads are made with love and his deserts have depth. The culture of the 'house' is up to date, warm with lots of light and intimate. A very nice place to take friends and family for an evening of fresh, local cuisine. Pros: ambience, food, food, food, food.... Cons: parking more

Spokane Suprise 9/23/2008

On a business trip from California with two others, we wanted to try something new and fresh. We found the Wild Sage American Bistro. We decided to try it for lunch but only two of us were able to go. After that indescribably delicious lunch, we convinced the other person we had to go back (for dinner the next night) so that she could experience this wonderful find! Pros: Delicious food, wonderful service, beautiful setting more

Culinary tour de force 9/15/2008

Hailing from Santa Fe, I?m privileged to enjoy the excellence of the city?s restaurants. Never thought I?d be jealous of another town?s culinary offerings until a recent Spokane vacation found me dining at the Wild Sage American Bistro. The service was impeccable ? courteous, informed and prompt. What?s not to love? And the food! It took my breath away. The restaurant supports local purveyors, highlighting the best of what?s in season and it shows; everything was farm fresh and bursting with favor. We started with cocktails infused with anything from quince, to basil to blueberries. The balance of savory, sweet and tart was the perfect primer for the gastronomic education that followed. Appetizers were fried green heirloom tomatoes, robust spreads and house-made breads and crackers and marinated vegetables. I can still recall the delight of crunching into a perfectly pickled green bean with undertones of chili peppers. The butters, whipped up with honey and herbs, were exquisite. And how is it that crackers can taste so good? You know you?re in for a treat when even the simplest fare is sublime. Then we dug into the entries, a brilliant take on traditional dishes. The familiar was expertly married with bold new tastes, elevating each dish to something beyond individual components. Although the velvety line-caught halibut with macadamia nut melted in my mouth, I could not help but envy my companion?s lobster-ginger masterpiece; it was a revelation in flavors and textures. For desert, the sweet, ethereal nature of the coconut cream layer cake was accentuated by an intense, tart infusion of Hawaiian lilikoi sauce and the chocolate tart, Belgian dark chocolate with a sugar crisp cap and fresh whipped cream, were to die for. The perfect end to a perfect meal. Bravo! Pros: service, ambience and of course the brilliant food more
