Potential White Rabbit patrons 1/12/2004

Mecca for San Antonio's punk and indie-rock scenes? No. I don't think so. I'm not gonna bash this place cause everyone is into their own thing and that's fine... I just want to let unsuspecting music lovers know that while this place will get a good show once in a blue moon (usually a touring band that doesn't know any better) it seems that the same crappy metal bands play there every night. Definately not punk. DEFINATELY not indie. Metal. Cheesey vocals. Hot guitar licks. Korn. Crap. Pros: good venue Cons: crappy music more

Kids in the Halls 9/27/2002

The familiar September breeze warmly covered me as the sky above burned dark except for two white halogen lamps focused on a billboard overhead. "We buy ugly houses", it read in neon orange letters. Outside on the patio, the music could be felt, and heard from behind the wall to the left. To the right stood a small both where some teenagers were selling CD's and stickers from local bands. While most of the people looked like they were still in high school, there where the occasional beer drinkers, with there wristbands designating them over twenty-one, and middle schoolers sporting their pokemon shirts. Overall the place had a quaint local atmosphere that added to the experience of the night. more

Went for the first time last night. IM ADDICTED! The atmosphere is awesome, the bands rocked, the crowd was jammin, drinks were fresh, staff was accomidating and the owner VERY hospitible!!! You like to Jam?..check it out!!! Pros: Bands, Staff, beer taste! :p Cons: Bathrooms, beer price more

Badass music in a badass atmosphere 8/8/2002

The White Rabbit always has at least a few good bands on schedule every night they play. The music is loud and the people are fun. Don't judge on looks though, because at first sight you might be afraid, but once you get into the music and realize how cool everyone is you will realize what makes this a unique place. Check out Transit, My Eye, Angerkill, Hogleg, Protien Shake, and Pitbull Daycare, some of my favorites. The place doesn't get busy untill around 10:00pm but still get there when it opens to check out some great new talent. The place could be a little cleaner, but all in all, it will make a great night! Don't forget free Thursdays!!! Pros: Cheap, No annoying bouncers, Cool hang out place Cons: Trashed bathrooms, Staples on the walls, Overall cleanliness more

Editorial
  • The Scene
There's a psychedelic mural on the stage's backdrop--a truly scary bunny that seems to be the conceptual descendant of Lewis Carroll and H. P. Lovecraft. The crowd in this dark, roomy venue is young, especially when local teenage bands bring their cadres of friends and fans. Chairs are sparse, and it gets packed for weekend and touring shows. But, you can always escape to the patio.

    The Draw
The sound system is loud but crystal-clear, whether you're by the main stage, or the smaller one in the back room. In a way, it's comforting: there's still a place in San Antonio with matte black walls, Marshall stacks, and kids playing as loud and as fast as they can. One of the few remaining clubs on the once-fertile North St. Mary's Street, the White Rabbit is Mecca for San Antonio's punk and indie-rock scenes.
