Best Diner in NYC? What a joke. 6/30/2008

Westway is cheap, and it's passable under some circumstances. But there are problems.\r \r First off, do not try the counter service. Even on a crazy busy weekend morning, there will be at most one or two people at the counter. There's a reason for that: the counter service is astonishingly bad. Unless you like being ignored for 15 minutes, then given a meal that someone out in the restaurant sent back. Since you're right there at the passthrough, you can't miss that little twist.\r \r And if you're a party of one, don't bother: they will no longer seat you in the dining room, even if there re a half dozen open booths.\r \r If you are dying of hunger at 2:00 AM and you're right there, Westway is tolerable, but never good. But they are cheap. Pros: Cheap. Cons: Abysmal service. more

Tiny omelettes 6/7/2008

Westway serves the smallest omelettes I've ever seen in a New York City diner. They should be ashamed of themselves. They can also be very aggressive about turning over your table when they're busy. The cashier never asks you how everything was; doubtlessly, they don't care. Pros: The restaurant is a good size. Cons: At Westway, you're just a number. more

Fun Diner, Yummy Breakfast 9/6/2006

I like the breakfast hours (7AM-11AM) here more than any of the other 20 hours its open for. The staff is nicer, the food tastes better (I've tested this theory @ 4AM and I've been right each time), and I wish the prices were cheaper. It does the job on for your average Greek diner. Pros: Service, Food, Delivery Cons: Bathrooms, Desserts more

Best comfort food! 8/6/2006

My family and I stopped by here during Fleet week last year on a rainy day and it was the perfect place tucked away with an amazingly large food selection and what wonderfully cheap prices! It was so good we ate there two nights in a row! Big booths for larger groups but tables for two as well, what a sweet place...I can't wait to go back! Pros: Food selection, prices, seating more

Good not great 5/8/2004

The food is consistant and good but how it got name ""Best Diner In Manhattan"" is beyond me. It also begs the question of when the NY Daily News gave them the honor Westway boasts as its not true now. I can name at least 5-10 better diners and I have in now way come close to sampling many of NYC's top diners. Not to sound too negative but be wary of the delivary. The very often mess up your orders and meals do come incomplete (for example asking to add becan doesn't mean they will even though they charge you for it). Have had the same problem in the diner but that is easily correctable. To be fair, the food still is good and the service is quick and attentative even though its usually very busy. Pros: Above avg. food, Good Service, Consistant Cons: , Decour, Overrated more

A step above Diner Cuisine! 3/30/2004

I live about a 1/2 block from Westway and when I want consistantly good food, big portions, great fast service and a step above your average diner food I go there! Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner are all great, but they are hit or miss with some of their pasta dishes. Sometimes their sauces aren't very authentic or good, but that is the only flaw I've had in the 11 years I've been going there! Pros: atmosphere, service, portions are huge Cons: , very busy more

Wow What a Change! 2/15/2003

I haven't been in New York latley but i went back to my neighborhood place, and it was totally different. They have remodel for the better. The place is unbelievable! The fod is still great, with plenty of choices. The service was okay. Whenever I come back to town, I'll visit them again! Pros: Great Food, Inexpensive Cons: Too Busy more

Okay 12/16/2002

We stopped at the Westway Diner on a rainy Friday night. Got seated right away. The menu is huge. Service was friendly and very fast. Food was okay - my burger tasted good but was not cooked all the way through. There are better diners in New York - we probably wouldn't go back. more

Best Selection, Best Price! 8/28/2002

Such a nice location. Such a nice place to eat. There is a theme to the place, it's a NewYork theme. This is NYC! A NY coffee shop that looks like a NY coffeeshop! Food: Seafood, Italian, Greek, American, Steak. On a budget? No problem! Good service! You're one of the family! Want a drink? Sure! Their stuffed clams are wonderful! I live in NorthCarolina, and eat here whenever I'm in the city! Pros: Great Bang for Buck!, Courtious Staff, Great Location more

The Best, Maybe Ever 8/27/2002

Our business orders from the 'ol Wester almost every day. The finest Turkey Burgers and Chicken Noodle soup on the East Coast. I'm serious. Don't overlook it just 'cuz it's got the word ""Diner"" in its name. The Westway is culinary nirvana. Pros: Food Cons: Atmosphere more
