service was dissapointing 11/11/2008

On a construction job in hoboken so last friday decided to check out the HT for dinner before heading home. Getting seated for dinner took a long time, and we were not able to order food at the bar while we waited because it was too crowded to sit. Also getting a beer was not easy. Me and the apprentice were about to leave because we were getting hungry and then the hostess told us that our table was ready when I complained about the wait. We were waiting for over an hour for a table at this point. Once seated it took the waiter 20 minutes to take our order. The food was served cold, and it took forever to get the check. I don't recommend this place for the dining experience but if you like loud busy bars then this is your place. Prices were a little on the high side. I've heard pretty good things about HT, but did not see it for myself. Nice decor, just poor service. Pros: location Cons: poor service more

Best Bar with food in Hoboken 10/11/2008

I had my sister's bridal shower at Hudson Tavern. It was terrific. One of the owners personally attended to every detail so that I had nothing to be concerned about. Everything was planned perfectly. The party was run very well. I was able to focus all of my attention on my sister and the other guests. I highly recommend Hudson Tavern for parties.\r \r After the party, I started going to Hudson Tavern with my son and husband. I feel like we've gone there almost every weekend for months. We feel totally welcomed and at home and the food is absolutely fantastic. Don't miss the wings. Get a split order of the BBQ and Hot (my husband always gets a Dale's Pale Ale and maybe a cheeseburger or pizza). We've had some great steaks and the ravioli special was excellent. We love going there for lunch with our parents, too. It's really great. more

JONKLAN IS A HOMOPHOB WITH BAD TASTE! 9/20/2008

I just need to respond to ""jonKlan""'s review below, or shall I say Jon KKKlan! I don't think anyone should listen to a review from a homophob... obviously he is so consumed with gay men in his surroundings that he cannot relax and have a drink and eat some good food. \r Seriously, I've lived in Hoboken for about 4 yrs now and you get pretty sick of the restuarant's in town, so I immediately tried Hudson Tavern with a bunch of my friends... we all loved it, yes the prices are a little high, but it's not your average bar food... compare it best to 10th and Willow, good food, nice flavors, paired best with a glass of wine. I recently tried the stuffed pork loin and loved the flavors of the goat cheese, it was pipping hot and poured right out of it. I've also tasted my friend's ribs, this corn bread sandwich they have, oh and the hanger steak is honestly my favorite. \r You know, I just want to say, it's one thing if you don't like food or drinks at a place, but where does someone get off bashing someone for being gay and suggesting that that person belongs at the Cage (hoboken's gay club/bar). WTF? Oh yea, let's stick ALL gay people at the Cage, JonKlan thinks he is super hot and if someone is gay they are obviously are attracted to him... JONKLAN, PAY ATTENTION TO YOUR STEAK ON YOUR PLATE AND STOP CHECKING OUT THE MEAT SERVING YOU AT THE BAR, because you seem so consumed, that Im thinking, you are the gay one! grow the hell up and have some respect. Pros: lots of outdoor seating, great hanger steak and drinks! Cons: homophob JonKlan might be sitting next to you at a table more

Bad food, worse service, weak drinks, drunken bartenders..go figure 9/13/2008

Hudson Tavern looks nice from the outside but once inside for drinks after 10pm, one is faced with a bartending staff right out the Third Reich. Skully, the new drunken youngblood, has no idea how to make drinks properly and is very bad at giving the correct change. I also noticed the bartenders were as drunk as the Patrons, and the bathroom is filthy. The food is mediocre as is the atmosphere. Hudson Tavern Bartending Staff for the most part needs lessons about how to treat customers. Another one of the Bartenders, bald guy, is a raving queen and was hitting on men all night. I felt very uncomfortable as did my other friends as this famboyant individual competed for our affection. The place is a zoo in uptown Hoboken. Highly recommended would be ANY other bar in the uptown area except for Hudson Tavern, even LUA. I wish for it's demise quite frequently after my weekend's experiences at this zoo. Purely unprofessional imho, and on it's way down hopefully sooner then later. Go River Dell GO!!!! Pros: nice TVs Cons: Flamboyant drunken bartenders made me think I was at the Cage more

Very Disappointing 6/20/2008

We were excited by the new option uptown, but what a disappointment. The service was below average and we're pretty sure she forgot to put in our order (she didn't admit that of course). The stuffed part of the stuffed poblano peppers was okay, but it's served with an awful tomato sauce that made it almost not edible. The pork loin sounded good, but actually lacked flavor and was served warm, not hot (a result of preparation on the fly?). The bread brought to the table is regular rustic white bread served with low quality olive oil. I'd pass on this unless you're starving or just don't care. The pear salad was over dressed, but the best thing we tried. There is outdoor seating (full at 10pm) and an energetic bar area (quite loud even when not full). There is a dining area to escape the noise. We debated if we should give it another chance, but in all honesty the food really wasn't good enough for the price. We'll see. Pros: outdoor seating, uptown location, nice bar Cons: weak service, bland food, high price for mediocrity more
