My order was placed with this shady company on the 29th of November when my wife and I went in to their Arlington Heights store to buy a couch. The total was about $1870. We decided to have it delivered a few weeks later. In the interim we found a much better deal at Carson's with better quality and far cheaper so I called Walter E Smithe two weeks before delivery was scheduled to cancel the shipment and just get a refund.
Thats when the problem began.
They told me that even though the item was IN-STOCK in their warehouse, (wasn't a special order or anything), that I was subject to a THIRTY PERCENT cancellation fee. That since I didn't cancel the order within 24 hours I was bound to this agreement within their NO REFUNDS, NO RETURN policy. Thank god I canceled it and it didn't arrive or I would have been completely scammed.
This company is a disaster to work with.
Their order ""manager"" Anna, does not return phone calls, and HER ""boss"", Colleen, is a flippant, arrogant woman. I had to go to the voicemail of the owner of the company, (Walter Smithe), and pleasd my case. To my dismay he never even bothered to call me back himself and had Can you imagine the chutzpah of these people? Their salesperson never bothered to let me know of their fraud before I left the door. Had I even expected such shady sales practices were in place I would have never given them a cent to begin with.
Simply put, I was a customer that came in to their store to buy something and because I decided to change my mind I was penalized 30% for it. I even gave Colleen a hypothetical on the phone and asked: ""If I was to spend $15,000 in furniture and canceled the order after a few days but weeks before delivery, you think keeping $4,500 aka 30% of my money is justifiable?"" She said ""yes"".
These people are crooks, CROOKS!!!!! Even after I contacted the owner he didn't have the guts to call me himself.
This company should not be in business.
