Don't trust recent reviews 4/28/2007

We have not been to Vine and we do not intend to go now. My wife and I were looking to make reservations for tonight and looked on OpenTable and the pickings were slim. We saw Vine had pleanty of availability so we read about them on opentable and it sounded good, we looked at the web site and it looked good, so we came to CitySearch to see what other diners had to say and at first we were excited by the recent good reviews and did not know why they would not be already full with all these great reviews. Then we saw they were all written the same day and obviously by the same person. There are similar misspellings, the punctuation like multiple commas between thoughts is the same and sentences ending in exclamation points. As we read on we came to the conclusion these were written by the restaurant to try and bury the recent bad reviews that seem to have been well thought out and detailed. We think this is very dishonest to mislead guests this way. We will pass on Vine and feel the availability on OpenTable on a Saturday night is the better indicator of what diners really think. Cons: Dishonest reviews more

Not a good community supporter 4/26/2007

We always go to every Share our Strength event since it gives us an excuse to dine out during the week, not that we need one. Vine has always participated in the past and used to be one of our top picks. We were shocked to find out they were not participate last night. We chose Sala instead and had a great time. It is a shame when a restaurant puts themself above helping others and being a good community supporter. Also we saw that Vine was dropped from Atlanta Cusine Top 75 restaurants in Atlanta that was just released. They made a big deal about being added and their web site still brags about it. Boy that did not last long. I guess even the press is seeing the changes. more

Three Strikes ... 4/24/2007

I can't say I was a regular of Vine but now they have given me no reason to go. There was always something odd about that place. I never could put my finger on it, but we did like to go every now and then on Monday for their half priced wines to get some high end wines at a more reasonable level. Vine's wine list, while it appears large, has always been overpriced compared to better restaurants like Wisteria and One Midtown Kitchen, that also have huge wine lists. The menu has been so so and inconsistent on quality and portions. Their cheese plate is the biggest rip off I have seen anywhere. Someone had scallops last night and got 3 for $23. I was at Sotto Sotto last weekend and they gave 3 on their appetizer for I think $11. It also does not look like it has changed for almost a year and there was not much I liked to start with so choices are slim. Rarely do their servers know anything about wine which is frustrating. Last night we were there with another couple and the first three bottles of wine we ordered were all not available, we started laughing after the third strike and said maybe you should tell us what you do have. What is the point of a wine list? Umm update your wine list. I saw in the previous review that someone was ""passing on"" what they heard they were going to expand the list. Fine, then do it or at least have what you say or reprint. What a waste of time. If we picked 3 wines and they were out of stock, how many more are on the list that they no longer have. Vine has now given me reason to not even go on Monday. I would rather go somewhere with a good wine listed that everyday is priced right, rather than go just on Mondays and have them hand you this big book of wines that it seems half they do not have. Crazy. Pros: Nothing. beware of a restaurant that has to have specials every night to get guests Cons: Too many wines out of stock, food and wine over priced more

great to have in the hood 4/22/2007

Living in the Vi-HI gives me many great restaurants to choose from; Sotto-Sotto, Fritti, Murphy?s, and Sala just to name a few. Pros: great wine list, good service nice bar Cons: parking is self park no valet more

Great Food, good wine & patio 4/18/2007

We arrived 5 minutes before they opened on a Saturday evening. We were attending a show that evening and they were responsive. The restaurant was smaller than I expected but the atmosphere was good. I was surprised that only one other couple arrived before we left over an hour later. I expected it to be crowded. Anyways, we sat on the patio. The atmosphere would have been great except that it felt like we arrived an hour before they opened. The kitchen staff and waiters were continuously walking through the patio area. At least a couple times, I noticed the kitchen staff standing in the doorway watching us. I chalked it up to them admiring my wife. They were also rearranging tables next to us. They seemed more intent on completing their task than not being disruptive. It was annoying at times. Nonetheless, we enjoyed the atmosphere. It was good. With more attention to detail, it could have been great. The service was good. The food was excellent! The pork chops and lamb were very tasty. The presentation was good as well. With better management, this could be a very good restaurant. Overall, we will probably go back when we visit Atlanta again. Pros: Food, wine list, atmosphere Cons: Attention to detail, management more

Brunch --- DON'T DO IT!! 4/2/2007

GOOD: Bloody Mary's - spicy mix and you can taste the Vodka; nice patio with pretty flowers. NOT SO GOOD: Everything else. Portions were very small and overpriced. Service was attentive, other than they totally forgot about one of our appetizers. Homemade potato chips were almost burned and tasteless (no seasoning), but the tiny little cup of cheese fondu for dipping was good. Their version of Eggs Benedict comes with no sides whatsoever - just eggs benedict on a plate. The fish & chips should be called chips and where's-the-fish. We looked at it and said, ""Where's the rest??"" It consisted to two chunks of what looked like two over-cooked hush puppies. Nope - those were the pieces of fish, with a funky-tasting malt vinegar dipping sauce, and served with over-cooked potato chips. A couple of of us had omelets which claimed to be three-egg omelets, but I don't think so. Maybe two-egg. They were tasty but a little ""brown and crispy"". They were served with approximately 5 greasy unseasoned french fries and a piece of wheat bread (not toasted) cut in half. No butter, no jelly, just bread. The grilled chicken sandwich was average - it's hard to mess up a grilled chicken sandwich, unless you include burned potato chips. The browned almond butter cake dessert was as dry as the Sahara Desert and crumbled when we cut into it. Oh well, at least we can say we've TRIED brunch at Vine, and leave it at that. Pros: BLOODY MARY'S; PATIO Cons: OVERPRICED, BAD FOOD, SERVICE more

A real Gem 2/25/2007

My daughter and boyfriend went to Vine for valentines day after reading the great review in Atlanta magazine and just raved about it. Since we live in Marietta we made reservations for Saturday and I will say it was worth the drive and we will be back. We had a bit of a wait even with reservations, but the place is so comfortable, we did not mind waiting about 20 minutes at the bar. Our server John was excellent. He helpd us navigate the menu and we loved everyone of his recommendations including the Ahi Tuna special. The wine list is the biggest I have seen anywhere. So many selections and all very reasonably priced. Our server asked the wine manager to come over to help with our selection and he recommended a great Pinot that was only $45. The desserts at only $7 each are artfully done and big enough to share. We made the mistake of ordering two dessert because all sounded so good and fiqyure they can't be that big for $7. Overall a fabulous place. We absolutely loved it and will be back. Pros: One of the best overall restaurants anywhere Cons: Nothing. Keep up the great work. We will be back. more

Best New Year's Eve Dinner Party Ever! Great Wine List! Service! 1/1/2007

This has to go down as one of our best New Years Eve Celebration Dinners ever. Our wonderful server made several tempting reccommendations. We started wih a Crab and Roasted Corn Bisque. It was topped with Serrano Chili and White Shrimp Relish. What a start. Next was the Blood-Red Orange and Fresh Fennel Salad. It had a wonderful Parmigiano Vinagrette. Got to get that receipe. We had a classic Chateaubriand, with Sundried Cherry and Cognac Jus. The best we've ever had. And to top everything off, a Valrhona Chocalate Mousse with Hazelnut Crumbles. And of course all the wine pairings were outstanding. I don't know how we can top this next New Year's Eve. Happy New Year! Pros: Outstanding New Year's Eve Menu! Great Professional Service! more

excellent food, perfect service 12/29/2006

This was our first visit to Vine which I found online at this site. We wanted a nice romantic spot with a great wine list. Vine exceeded our expectations on every front. We had an early reservation in order to catch the Nutcracker at the Fox. We actually got there 15 min before they opened (coming from out of town), but it was no problem, we were immediately seated. Our server was Cameron, and he was one of the most engaging servers I have had anywhere, very nice and helpful with the menu. We got the eggplant roulade based on his description and it was fantastic. The grouper was excellent, but the pork chop was absolutely the best! It rivaled any steak I have ever had. We enjoyed it all with an outstanding Turley Zinfindel. While there are many spots in Atlanta I still want to try when coming into town, Vine will be getting repeat business from us!! Pros: service, food, and wine list more

Fantastic Service 11/10/2006

Went on thursday for the endless wine program and had a very fun time. Our server Lauren knew a lot about wine and recommended we try a number of different wines rather than just stick with one. She helped us do pairings throughout our meal which made our dinner that much more enjoyable. It was very busy and she was running around but never missed a beat. We did not do any entrees, but did enjoy a very nice meat and cheese tray and a number of the tasting plates to go with each new wine we had. We did have the chocolate tort and the pumpkin cheesecake for dessert and both were excellent as well. This is the most fun we had at a restaurant in a long time. We highly recommend Lauren. Pros: Great service, wine special, excellent food Cons: very busy and seemed a bit short handed more

Great Night Out 11/5/2006

The wine was the strong focus of the restaurant but could not completely over shadow the great service and food. With a 17 page wine list I would recommend using the sommelier they have on staff. Through a few questions he was able to suggest a couple of choices and then checked back on us after we received our main courses to see how he did. At vine they have an interesting meat and cheese selection for a first course - we selected two cheeses and a meat - excellent. We also had two ""tastings"" which were outstanding. The menu changes periodically but from the seasonal selections we had - the crab cakes and lamb were top notch with the salmon and duck falling a little behind. Pros: Wine List, Service more

Lovely brunch spot 11/5/2006

It happened to be pretty empty the Sunday we went, but our service was excellent. Food was delicious and good portions for the price. It was a pleasant experience overall. I would recommend this place to anyone. Can't wait to go back for dinner and some wine. Pros: Great food, free parking, cool paintings Cons: Weird that it is right on a parking lot more

Has really fallen off 10/19/2006

We returned to Vine last month to find out my favorite restaurant has really gone done hill. The space used to be beautiful and now it did not even look like the same space. When you used to walked in you could feel the energy and excitement, now it feels depressing and that Jazz ""radio"" station they play is terrible. The bartenders are new, the good servers are gone and there is another new chef. I used to love the nice wine glasses they used that fit the classy atmosphere, now they are like chain restaurants, small glasses with the name printed on them. How tacky. Pros: No problem getting seated, not busy Cons: Where do I start more

Good food but less than positive overall experience 10/7/2006

Ok, so Vine has been on my list of restaurants I wanted to visit for some time. Last night we finally got our chance, mainly because we waited until the last minute to make reservations and pretty much everything else was booked. I'd always thought it a bid odd that Vine always had reservations at the last minute and at every time slot you could imagine. Now I finally understand why. There is nobody there! We arrived at 7:15pm for 8:00pm reservations and the place was empty. Now, I must first say that I really liked the ambiance. There was a fireplace going and dim lighting and the overall feel was romantic. I wouldn't previously have thought of having the place to myself as a bad thing until we sat down. On one hand, the service was prompt and the servers attentive. On the other, the servers were probably bored and felt the need to rush our table after we put down a fork to swoop and try to take a plate or glass before we were done. Three times someone tried to remove a glass before we were done and another two times tried to remove our plates. Overall, the food was good- not outstanding but definitely good. I had the chef's special risotto and it was good- a little overpowered by the applewood bacon but I love applewood bacon so that was ok. My husband's lamb came beautifully presented. Not a lamb person I actually thought it was quite good but my husband (being a lamb person) thought it was just ok. I love the assortment of small plates they have to share. We had the crostini of the day and they were great and very generous portions. The creme brule sampler dessort was great. Overall, I found the food to be above average but have decided I don't enjoy being one of the only diners in a restaurant! more
