Viet Thai Noodle House

It's unfortunate that they couldn't get things right. I really wanted to give them a fair chance since they are conveniently located for me, and I know several people who are regulars, so I gave them a third try. I ordered some version of lemongrass (chicken, tofu) each time and asked for it a ""little spicy"" and not only was it way too spicy but the portion size didn't change with the higher dinner prices...over $10 for the main course with a side of rice that is disproportionate to the size of the main course. I ate it because it costs so much (got a carry out and didn't check it till I got back to work). Now my nose is running, my whole mouth around my lips is red, my stomach is on fire, and I'm still hungry!! Today I noticed a sewer smell just inside the front entrance that I didn't notice before (must have been concentrating too much on the window that is broken out and taped over). That on top of everything else has solidified my decision to not spend my hard earned money there anymore. Sorry, but I tried!! more

I love this restaurant. From appetizers to noodle bowls to huge bowls of soup, and whether savory or super-spicy, they get everything right here every time. The food comes out very quickly, but I always enjoy having some hot tea to relax. Beer and wine are available, too, of course. Staff is very friendly. Definitely worth a visit, and once you try it, you'll go back often. more

We like to try different restaurants, but when we can't think of a new place, or if we just want to go somewhere familiar, this place is on our short list of reliable restaurants. This is a family-run business, and it's a very relaxed atmosphere. The menu is extensive but a lot of the pages are devoted to variations of pho (noodle soup) or bun (vermicelli). Although there's a lot of variety, we usually order only a few dishes each time - not because the others dishes are bad, but because we just like the dishes - it's like our ""comfort food"". Usually we order the house special pho or the shrimp pho when we feel like soup; I like noodles a lot, so usually it's the house special bun when it's not soup. I also like their crispy noodle dish - it's similar to Hong-Kong style chow mein, with long egg noodles fried crispy and topped with meat and sauce. The family owners are great, very nice. This restaurant has the best of both worlds in Vietnamese and Thai food. Even though they specialize in both ethniticities, neither side suffers for quality and taste, both are excellent. Everything on the menu that we have tried was very delicious and bursting with great flavor and textures. The owners are truly wonderful people, very attentive and provide great service. Hands down, this has got to be one of the hidden gems of Charlotte in the sense of ethnic family restaurants. I HIGHLY recommend it in every sense of the word. Pros: Ample parking, relaxing ambience, close to shopping, yet out of the way. Cons: A little hard to find if you don't know South Charlotte too well. more

There happens to be a LOT of Asian cuisine on Pineville-Matthews, Hwy 51. This place doesn't face the highway so is just perfect when it comes to looking for a place that is not overcrowded. We first went here when it was under difference ownership. We dropped in one day when another restaurant was too full, and immediately noticed the difference. The food was MUCH better. We are very impressed with the food. The family that owns this restaurant is very pleasant. You can't possibly have a bad time here. Pros: Ample parking, next to highway, yet not too crowded. We recently discovered this place. The service was very attentive, and the food was wonderful. Lots of cheesecake available for dessert. Highly recommended. A great break from chain restaurants. Pros: Food is delicious Cons: A little hard to find. more

Moving to Charlotte area from Los Angeles area we were worried about finding a good Thai restaurant. We found a great Thai restraunt. The meals arrive in a timely manner and were authentic with full flavor. The Vietnamise selection was good and food quality is superb. Pros: Food and service Cons: Always show up when closed. more
