We've had nothing but great care from this hospital, when it comes to emergency, they are swift and caring, we have had to deal with them for over 5yrs with our little chihuahua w...

i'M GOING TO KEEP THIS SIMPLE , SHORT AND CONCISE. ON A 1-10 RATING. I SPENT THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS ON MY DOG THAT DIED OF ANEMIA. SHE WOULD HAVE DIED ANYWAY, BUT, I WON'T GO ...

to all you nervous owners 12/29/2008

First of all, I would like to counter a review on Dr. David Snyder, and ask a question...Do you have your regular doctor rub your belly and give you treats? If you needed a knee repair, would you be a little bit bothered if your orthopedic specialist baby talked you? I worked with Dr. Snyder and having worked for many surgeons in my time, Dr. Snyder is the most brilliant and precise surgeon I have ever known. I am going to have surgery on my knee soon and I wish I could have Dr. Snyder do it. All of these reviews are bad mouthing the least important aspect of veterinary medicine (ie the receptionists, are you kidding me?) Receptionists get paid crappy, and dont touch your animals, and are usually infuriating to the entire hospital. Money? What people dont understand is that...1)vets dont make a lot of it because it allllllll goes back to keeping a practice open 2)pet insurance is sooooooo cheap 3)the people who care about your animals and work with them, they dont see that money either more

Poor business practice. 12/8/2008

My blood is boiling after reading these reviews. \r \r I took my lab in the day before Thanksgiving because my vet said that he could possibly have pancreatitis and there was nothing they could do given the holiday since he needed to be on an IV overnight. I took my dog to VCA Lynnwood and was greeted by 2 office girls who appeared to not even want to be there, they were dry and unfeeling, but they did manage to get me 2 techs to bring a gurnee out right away to bring my dog in who couldn't walk due to extreme fatigue and weakness. Without detailing the rudeness and dryness of the office staff,I'll skip to the main issue. The doctors felt and concurred with my vet that he probably had pancreatitis because of the pain he was in. They also felt that he could possibly have testicular cancer due to pain and growth of one of his testicals. I asked what it was going to cost to have him stay there overnight into The Thanksgiving holiday to run more tests and hope that he would show some more

Impersonable, Surgery estimate $3300 - $4500 9/23/2008

I live in beautiful Bellingham, WA. On of the top 10 places for dogs. My vet in Bellingham is wonderful, caring, compassionate, she always has an extra treat in her pocket for good behavior! When Otis needed TPLO surgery, we were referred to Dr. David Snyder at VCA Veterinary Specialty Center.\r \r Dr. Snyder was all business. No pat on the head, no affection or treats for Otis. I got the feeling that he doesn't even like animals. He flipped Otis on to his side, held him down and started popping Otis's knee to confirm the acl tear. Otis is a big yellow lab that is trained to play dead. Dr. Snyder would not allow me to have my dog play dead to get him on his side, instead he just manhandled my dog. It was horrifying! \r \r Then he left his assistant to give us our surgery quote. The quote was $3500 - $4500. My issue is not with the amount, but with the fact that the quote varied by $1000! Don't they know how much it is going to cost after examining Otis?!? The assitant finally admitted to m more

These people are taking care of my pet? 8/14/2008

That was my thought based on my first impression of the center. The reception staff were not friendly and didn't seem to like pets at all!! They were hurried, abrupt, and dismissive. I had been referred to the center by my vet and just wanted to get things taken care of, so I stayed against my better judgement. I was relieved when the vet and intern came into the room--both were more personable and helpful. My interaction with them turned out to be the best part of my experience. I was there for an hour and a half to "drop off" my pooch for an ultrasound and I waited another 50 minutes when "picking up" my pooch because the technician forgot to tell the discharge staff I was waiting. My pooch had been there over 8 hours. It was fairly expensive and given the treatment that I experienced and the treatment I witnessed with other clients, I would not go back. I will get my test results and ask my vet for another referral if necessary. Beware. more

My cat had small-cell lymphoma 3/13/2008

Every once in there's a pet like those exceptional human beings that become your best friends. I was heartbroken when my cat Koshka lost weight steadily, developed diarrhea, and his vet had been unable to diagnose him. The vet suggested an endoscopy; this was 1 of 2 places he recommended. Dr. Gokhale, a very caring vet, took his history, examined him, & suggested an ultrasound, which might find masses in areas not covered by the endoscopy. We did this and found masses & inflammation. We thoroughly discussed all options (Dr.. Gokhale was excellent at explaining everything and applied no pressure for any option) and decided on an operation, which would give Koshka his best chance at survival, combining treatment & diagnosis. The operation was a risk, involving his pancreas, liver, & colon, and Koshka was 15. I initially decided against x-raying his lungs, but then opted to do so as I felt the operation would be wrong if the cancer had reached his lungs and would probably shorten rather t more

Ashley 3/2/2008

It had to be the worst experience of our life. Our young healthy dog was diagnosed with Irritable Bowel Disease, she kept getting weaker and I questioned the treatment. I was told I had the option of euthanasia. After thousands of dollars, we could not bear to see her so weak and miserable and felt putting her to sleep was all we could do. The whole experience of putting her to sleep was horrific. No calming medication was given before to relax her, her passing was very painful for her and for us. Compared to our other experience, where our old dog just relaxed in our arms and was gone and this was with a small town vet in Idaho.\r \r And then there is the issue of demanding for money, because we were very upset, we wanted to pay before we had our precious pet put to sleep, and that apparently wasn't convenient for the staff, not until we were in the room to put her down, did they come and want the money. more

My experience 11/30/2007

I started to write a review earlier, but didn't finish, and now I'm going to change it anyway. I think reviews of healthcare facilities either for humans or pets are usually not trustworthy because they see so many thousands of patients but only the people who are pissed off write reviews. I feel they took good care of my cat, but the "girls" at the front desk are another matter. The doctors and techs will tell you one thing, then when it's time to leave, the front desk will insist you pay in full. I normally take my cat to another vet, and they are fantastic, unfortunately it was an emergency so I took my cat here. When I took my cat home, they never called to check and ask how she was doing. My own vet has called me three times already. It looks like my cat isn't going to make it unfortunately, and I've been waiting three hours for a call back about a simple question I have. I guess they got my money, so they don't give a damn about my animal anymore. In the future, if I hav more
