Best

The food is so fresh. Sometimes the wait is a little long, but everything is prepared when you order it and not hours before. The place is sooooo good. One of my favorites in NYC.

Worst

Meat tastes like cardboard. Slow service. Must order appetizer and bring friends or you will die of hunger...

bad pho 10/6/2010

Do not come here for pho. It was just terrible. The broth tasted like salty beef bouillon. No spice flavors to speak of like star anise, cinnamon, coriander... or even real beef flavor. No grandmas were slaving away for hours simmering this soup! The kicker: no Sriracha sauce in the restaurant. I mean, why even offer pho on the menu if you don't have the right condiments? Just another gussied up vietnamese restaurant charging twice the price for little substance or authenticity. Service was okay though. more

Nice Wait staff and great food 3/9/2009

I had dinner there on Sunday night. I happen to get there very early (6:15) and found out that they have a $14 pre-fixe dinner (I don't know if this is Sunday only or every day as I never saw it on prior visits). The food is always good. The pre-fixe had a nice selection and so much food that I ended up with dinner for the next night. We were stuffed but I couldn't leave a restaurant for $14 (including a glass of wine) so we ordered dessert and tea. Desserts were not as good as the dinner but they had a nice selection. Oh, and did I mention how nice ALL the wait staff are. Any time I have been there they are pleasant, friendly and accommodating. Great place for an easy enjoyable neighborhood dinner. more

Outdoor dining is nice but the food is pretty bad 4/25/2007

Poor service; waiters brisk and rude. Food ranges from average to bad. Outside dining is nice though. For better vietnamese, go to Saigon Grill. more

Great Brunch Experience 1/7/2007

On Saturday (when the weather was 70 degrees), my boyfriend and I decided to enjoy the beautiful weather and have brunch at Vermicelli. The service was efficient and friendly. The brunch included a soup (broth with vegetables, chicken, and tofu), a rice paper roll, rice, salad, dipping sauce, and a main dish of your choice. Note - all of this for $7.95 a person! I had the diced chicken curry with sweet potatoes (spicy and served in a huge portion, I barely finished half), my boyfriend had the BBQ marinated beef (this came in a smaller portion but was very flavorful). Don't expect a heavy meal, however - everything is extremely light, non-greasy, full of flavor, and delicious. We will definitely return for dinner as this seems to be the type of restaurant where everything on the menu is good. more

gently service, healthy food 6/11/2006

yes, they give you a gently service, and very healthy food at reasonable prices. I go there at least twice a week. It is my favorite place for "diet" while eating delicious! the oriental guys are the sweetest waiters in town. more

I'D RECOMMEND IT! 2/23/2006

I'm Vietnamese and I've had a hard time finding a good Viet restaurant. The food here is interesting...authentic, but not put together how we would normally do it--but it just makes it a more interesting meal! The quality of the food is superb. The Chilean sea bass was AMAZING. Ambience is nice. Service is superior. We felt very well attended to. Wine was good too! I'm glad we tried this place for valentines day. Pros: Great service, good food, nice ambience more

BEST IN NEW YORK 2/3/2006

This is not just one of the best vietnamese restaurants, but is one of the best restaurants overall in NYC. Its food is consistently d-e-e-e-lcious. The ambience is great, and service is fantastic. It will please a romantic date or a large group. I have eaten here several times and each and after each time I am more convinced that it is one of the CITY's best picks if overall for food, ambience, service and value. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED! Pros: food, ambience, service more

Upper East Side-MUST GO TO 3/11/2005

My boyfriend and I stumbled to this restuarant thinking it was Italian. We ate and are frequent visitors. Each time is great. Just dont eat the curry dishes. I personally dont prefer them though... I have taken friends and relatives... they all love it. =) Pros: Atmosphere, Great Value, service Cons: brwn rice-sometimes, curry dishes more

Can't believe it is so bad 3/1/2005

I cannot believe that it was as bad as everyone said here. We had to call the waiter over to take our order. They didn't clear the table for about 30 minutes after we finished eating. They never refilled our water glasses so we got up and got our own pitcher. The food was average. There are so many better places to go, actually never go here it was terrible. Cons: Bad service, bad wine list, ok food more

Beware! 1/14/2005

The food is barely adequate and overpriced for what you get. But the worst thing is that an employee dropped peanut sauce which splattered all over us (including our hair and clothes) and they did not even apologize or offer us a free dessert/drink. What a terrible experience and such rudeness, I would never go back. Pros: none more

Dem good eats 8/11/2003

Ive eaten here over 6 times and each time I order something new its gets better. The spicy shrimp and squid is fabulous and definately get the spring rolls. The only that really needs work is the service which is sometimes ok, but at times horrible. more

$10 for Pho??? 12/19/2002

While the decor is lovely and the food artfully presented, the prices are not in line with the quality nor portion size. The lunch box combos are a better value. Also, the scrowd is definitely that Upper East Side snottery, I so detest. Yes, the food is tasty - but there are better, cheaper places to go (Like Saigon Grill in the '80's) that may not look as pretty - but have way better grub! Pros: Decor, Atmosphere, Tasty Cons: Over-priced, Snobby Crowd, Not authentic more

noodles and spice on the upper east side 9/25/2002

No doubt, the best vietnamese food in tow, this upper east side popular locale is not dissapointing to any palate! The food is outstanding, quality is never poor, service with a smile, and definitely a good deal when the check comes! All dishes on the menu are exotic and delicious, the fish being my personal favorites! Pros: food, service, location more

No wonder why it is always crowded 8/20/2002

While living on the upper east side, you get used to many good places, but this is a great spot to check out if you have not alreadty. Go with a group or on a date...either way, it is the perfect setting. The seabass is wonderful, and so are the soft shell crabs. You can order just about everything and it will be great. Indoor and outdoor dining are both a treat. Pros: Food, Atmosphere Cons: Small Bar more
