Amazing prices, great drinks and friendly bartenders. Crowd can get thick on Friday and Saturday nights after 9pm but a cozy place to sit can almost always be found at other times [they even take reservations] . A killer happy hour until 10pm every night!! The perfect stand-by neighborhood place to start the night or unwind after work. Pros: prices, awesome staff, good location more

Decor Scary, Too Crowded 4/6/2005

It was super crowded. The food we had was bland and the drinks were okay. The paintings they had hanging looked like serial killer drawings. My friends and I were all too happy to leave to go to a bar where you could sit, drink, and actually talk. Even listen to the music. Cons: crowded, bad decor more

A different twist on cocktails 12/29/2004

The drinks menu, though in common with so many ""hip joints"" it is printed in white on transparent perspex making it darn near impossible to decipher, offers some interesting alternatives to the mainstream. The horseraddish bloody mary is perhaps a little too much for those with a weak constitution, but overall a lively weekend bar with great unassuming service, good decor and a lively crowd. My favorite bar. You cannot beat the service. Or the happy hour. And all the bartenders and the owners are great. Too bad it is not more crowded earlier in the evening. Have to say it is crazy later on at night, especially weekends. Pros: Happy hour, great bartenders, friendly more

Verlaine has the best happy hour IN THE WORLD. Four dollar lychee martinis and three dollar red and white sangria. The space is pretty big for the area, with amazing high ceilings. Calamari is great, as is honey-glazed salmon. Servers are friendly and put no pressure on you, even when it's crowded. It's a good place to start the night, as they have a really good happy hour and good appetizers. It's a little slow after work, but I like that. It starts to pick up as the night goes on. All in all, a great place to just chill with some friends. It's also pretty romantic with the ceilings and yellow light. Highly recommend. Pros: lychee martinis, good location, affordable more

This place is wonderful... good drink specials, fabulous service, atmosphere, and music. Very romantic sitting on the plush couches, and the waitress noticed every time we needed another drink and promply brought us more. Not a single complaint. My favorite place so far!!!! Talk to the owners once and they'll remember you forever. This place has a warm but cool vibe. Very little attitude, delicous 'signature' cocktails, great happy hour deals. Everytime I go, I'm able to meet/talk to a new person. Really good place to rent out for a private party, too. Pros: Warm ambience, innovative cocktails, caring staff more

Verlaine has one of the best drink menus I have ever seen. The ""Verlaine"" and the ""Hanoi"" are awesome! I am shocked that the review left a few before this one says that it is overpriced. I think it is dirt cheap! The drinks are all around $8, and 1/2 off between 5pm and 8pm M-F! The appetizers/tapas are around $8 each as well! Whatever... I always have a great experience here. Yummy inspired drinks priced surprisingly well, chill music, great environment, and friendly and helpful staff... what more could you want from a bar? My friends and I had a joint birthday throwdown here and it was a huge success. They were able to accomodate our 100+ guests throughout the night and above all, everyone had a great time! verlaine has to be one of those great places you always want to find. the cocktails are great and interesting, the music is pumping and the vietnamise finger foods are yummy and are well priced. it doesn't get crowded every moment of every night but how great is that? and you always feel welcome, especially in the front section lounge area. i love this place and the all of the owners are HOT! Great Happy Hour Deal 12/23/2002

If you go to Verlaine for the happy hour (half priced martinis - $4), it's best to go with a group, because it's a quiet one. You'll get great deals on their martinis and their appetizers were good too. I also went on a Saturday night and enjoyed it as well. The atmosphere is a bit off, but the bar is nice and there are several small tables along one wall and in the front as well. The drinks are great and you can enjoy the fashionable yet not overly trendy crowd. The bar area can be a bit crowded, especially later in the night. Best with friends 12/6/2002

This definitely isn't a place to go meet new friends as a lot of the people there are as many have said - totally pretentious. It really reminded me of DC's Persian scene crowd-wise - which I admit wasn't my favorite crowd when I lived down there - very Gucci, BMW, Button-down shirt. However, the drinks are some of the best I've had. Their drink menu is FANTASTIC - definitely go. But as I said above, bring some friends so you have someone to talk to. more

It is a real sophisticated NY place. Drinks are pricey (still cheaper than W hotel or Park Av. establish), but very original. If you like to try something new, sophisticated and original it is the place to go. The crowed a lot of fun no suburbs yet. Crowed is mid 20 early 30. Good place to see and to be seen. Good place to bring not native NY guests to impress. Pros: crowd, decor, drinks more
