Not so great 10/11/2009

I took my boyfriend there for a fullbody deep tissue message before he deployed and I was to get a swedish message. We were in the couples room together. My boyfriend though the music was irratating and there was a women who did his deep tissue and he said it just felt like someone was rubbing lotion on him. I got the regular swedish message and it felt like the man was trying to kill me. Horriable service Cons: Service is not worth the price more

Absolutely horrible experience 9/19/2009

The Hyatt booked my wife and I at Vanilla, with specific instructions that included a request for two female massage therapists. When we got there, we couldn't dissern the entrance from adjoining Starbucks and athletic club. The place was warm and musty and it appeared very worn. Nevertheless, we checked in and waited. When our maseuses finally showed, they were a guy and a girl. When we politely asked for the two female masseuses requested and confirmed, the belligerent manager claimed the Hyatt had told them nothing, but would not let us see the order. She acted as though we were at fault, and she wasn’t in the least apologetic, sympathetic or interested in making the slightest accommodation. In short, she was one of the rudest people I’ve ever encountered in the service industry. We just ended up walking out. This was to be a high point of a weekend of relaxation for my wife. The whole massage and facial was to be a pleasant surprise, followed by a tour, dinner, etc. Well, it was a surprise that was far from pleasant. It ruined our day, destroyed the timing of our schedule, etc. You'd be better off at Greenbriar (where we had a great experience) or Massage Envy(less expensive and much more professional and reliable) than going to the Vanilla Day Spa. Pros: Not a thing Cons: Rude, surly, poor location, subpar facility more

terrible everything! 8/17/2009

I have NOTHING good to say about this spa! For one THE AIR CONDITIONER wasnt on! It was hot and loud and the spa smells like the food from the cafe next door and you hear the clanging of the plates and dishes from the restaurant's kitchen. My facial was so average and it wa s the worst massage I have ever received! I tried to express this to the owner/spa director but she was clearly too absorbed with more important things to be bothered by a customer. This was a nightmare! Pros: i can go to other spas Cons: HOT, LOUD, rude staff, rip off! more

Worst massage ever! 8/15/2009

I went for a basic 1 hour massage. Called, made the appointment; had to give my credit card, which was odd. I have never given my credit card for Spas in Manhattan. I brushed it off as another thing the South does oddly. I am used to not finding parking (I used to live in Manhattan, NY) so I made sure to have plenty of time to find a spot. I simply went to a garage instead of trying to find a meter close to the Spa. When I walked into the spa, I was underwhelmed... I could hear what I assume is a gym and dishes clanging together. The receptionist didn't even bother looking up, an older woman obviously nouveau riche and very gaudy, finally bothered herself enough to check me in. I waited over 30 minutes pass my appointment time for my massage. No one said anything about running late or apologizing. Finally went in for my massage, and out of curiosity I set the timer on my phone to time the massage. Less than 45 minutes; with the waiting on the table, etc. etc. My husband gives better massages. I was charged full price though I brought up the short time I was actually massaged plus waiting time. The gauche receptionist replied with "That's how it is at all spas".... No, it isn't. A friend recommended Savannah Day Spa. I am going to go there next. Pros: You can get food while you wait over 30 minutes Cons: Terrible, Untrained rude staff. more

Don't waste your money! 7/31/2009

Do NOT waste your money on this spa. We were in Savannah for a wedding and I thought I would try out a spa. I called and made an appointment. I walked in and the receptionist was too busy checking her email to even look up and say hi. I found the waiting room myself. The receptionist also couldnt answer any questions regarding the spa menu or products that they had for sale. I have been to many spas and this was by far the most unprofessional. Cons: terrible customer service. Unprofessional more

Vanilla Day Spa is the worst Spa in Savannah! 3/13/2009

I went to have my eyebrows done before a special function with my husband. I should have known better than to try a new place! I have naturally thin and arched brows and just wanted them cleaned up and shaped. I explain specifically what I wanted. (I have said this explanation many times to plenty of others who barely speak English without a problem understanding and delivering exactly what I want.) The waxing left me with barely any hair on my eyebrows left. What hair she did leave was random, unclean lines that I had to go home and fix. This was the worst waxing experience I have EVER had! In over ten years of waxing this service was the most expensive and the most poorly done. I attempted to talk to the manager about how awful they were, instead even attempting to make up for my lost eyebrows, she just essentially said "Oh Well, they will grow back". I was also accused of being too particular, she thought they looked fine when I came out to pay. She also said that it was my fault because obviously I did not explain myself properly. Vanilla Day Spa is absolutely the worst spa I have ever been in! Pros: Example: best croissants in town Cons: Overpriced, Cramped, Unprofessional more

I am ready to go back!!!! 1/12/2009

Have been to the Vanilla Day Spa tons of times and wanted to share the experience with those looking for a great place to unwind. Its always a challenge to find parking in downtown Savannah but that cannot be blamed on the spa obviously. So, go a little early just in case as to not freak out if your time is short! The spa is just what you hope when you first walk in... nice and quiet (I heard no noise problems like other reviewers mentioned) and it smells great! The front desk person has always been kind and friendly. I also have never had a problem with my appointments... this is from one service appointments to packages, to gift cards to sending my step-daughter as a gift to her... no problems. They have a great seating area to wait and have a nice drink and relax.... The appointments are always what I am hoping for. My favorite services have always been the massages, the facials, microdermabrasion packages, pedicure, and eyebrow waxing... All were great. I highly recommend Vanilla. You will not be disappointed. Do it for yourself or as a gift! NICE!!!!! more

Really 4.5 stars! 6/19/2008

I was given a gift card to Vanilla and I finally had the chance to use it today. The staff was very courteous and friendly when I entered and my first treatment with Giselle (facial); it was amazing (she even went a little overtime). She was very helpful offering tips and suggesting products I could find in any pharmacy/grocery store. My next treatment was a massage with Suzanne, and I would highly recommend her services. The only reason not to give 5 stars is that I could faintly hear outside noise (banging/dishes) but usually the low music in the room would drown it out. Pros: the staff and their pampering Cons: parking more

Good Service Unless You Use a Gift Card 12/30/2007

For Christmas, a couple surprised me with a $200 gift card to this spa. It was such a huge gift from this couple, and filled my heart that they thought so much of me. Being the caretaker for many animals, I rarely get a chance to relax just for myself, and I was overly excited to have someone pamper me for a bit. I was very excited as I had heard this place had won several awards from local magazines, though I have never known anyone to personally use it. Sadly, that was not the experience I had today. Earlier this week, I contacted the spa through its website about scheduling for a specific package that would use up the gift card in one trip. The spa director responded and gave me an appointment for today. According to the website information, I would be there for three hours, which meant I had to reschedule my normal Saturday responsibilities, but would be worth it. After spending 20 minutes trying to find a place to park, I finally made it into the day spa with a minute or two to spare before my appointment. The masseuse used his skills to the best of his abilities (and I tipped him very well for trying), however, due to all the noise outside the room from doors slamming, plates being dropped in the cafe, and people loudly talking and laughing, I could not even hear the music in the room. The massage was over before long, and seemed shorter than I remembered the description being on the website for the package. Imagine my surprise when I was ushered to the front to pay and be told that I was done for the day. The lady at the front desk, who never once smiled when I arrived or was checking out, said I was only scheduled for a massage. I was not offered an apology for the miscommunication, nor was I offered a chance to reschedule for the other parts of the package I thought I was getting. I was simply told it was $70 and they needed the gift card to charge it. Apparently, there was a note that it was a gift card appointment. Pros: Ask for Chris - he was great for the massage Cons: Treat you differently if you use a gift card, no customer service, parking is a nightmare more

Great Spa, Perfect for a Special Occasion 12/27/2007

I recently went to Savannah to celebrate an important birthday and treated myself to a full day 5-hour treatment at Vanilla Day Spa. I had never been there before and had read good reviews. This was the perfect experience. It started with a facial with Brenda which was lovely. She worked magic with my skin. My skin looked beautiful and nourished for days. She didn't push any products on me, but wrote them down and slid them in purse should I desire to purchase any once I got home. That informative, less-pushy approach was perfect. I then followed the facial with a body scrub and hot river stone massage and both were absolutely magical. The music piped into every low-lit room was lovely and all of the women working there were very knowledgeable and gentle as well as very professional. The atmosphere was warm and cozy and I never waited for more than 5 minutes in between any of my treatments. Lastly, I received a signature pedicure and manicure, which were delightful (especially with the parafin wax treatments). I definitely anticipate coming back to this spa and would highly recommend it to anyone living or visiting Savannah. Everyone was warm and friendly as well as professional and knowledgeable. Also, the full day spa treatment comes with lunch and I opted for a salad, which comes from the cafe next door and was brought to me by my nail tech to eat while she did my pedicure. The salad was amazing and I liked the convenience of being able to eat while being serviced. All the way around, this is a wonderful spa. Pros: Facilities, atmosphere, and services offered Cons: Parking if you drive more

Can't keep a reservation! 9/12/2007

My friends and I planned well in advance for a spa weekend in Savannah. We booked our 3 packages together, stressing that we were a group and wanted to get in at the same time. We made our reservation and confirmed it as our trip approached. We showed up 30 minutes prior to our appts only to be told that they had to make some changes to the schedule, thus resulting in all our spa packages being rescheduled throughout the day, at seperate times and several hours apart. We rec'd no phone call earlier in the week informing of us this change. They were unapologetic and offered little explanation. Needless to say, timewise, this didn't work out for us. We were forced to leave w/o our spa packages and w/o time to reschedule. Not sure how the actual treatments are but based on our limited experience, I wouldn't even bother looking at their website or scheduling an appt. I'm sure Savannah has several better, more considerate spas--check those out instead! more

Best Day Spa anywhere!!! 8/27/2007

My mother and I made reservations a month in advance and we received great customer service. When we got there the staff was very friendly and professional. We got the all day getaway and had the best time ever and the food for lunch was exceptional. From now on my mom and I will return every year to enjoy another wonderful day of pampering. I highly recommend this to anyone looking for exceptional service. Pros: Professional, friendly and knowledgeable staff Cons: Parking more

Other day spas with better service and better atmosphere 8/23/2007

I and my wife went to this spa because of all the reviews. We were not impressed with both the service and attitude. Maybe management has changed since the last review but the lady at the desk appeared to be a very snooty teenager who appeared very clueless about everything. Our massage was 15 minutes which was not a big deal, what was though was that it was only 45 minutes, not an hour! This was brought up to the lady at the desk, and nothing was done about it. There are several other spa's that are in savannah. I would never recommend this to family or friends. Pros: -A lot of seating arrangments, cheap Cons: One restroom, no convenient parking, ill mannered staff, not timely, and not much ambience more

Awesome massage and really nice staff 7/17/2007

My husband and I went to Vanilla for a couple?s massage, and we were both very impressed! The staff there was very genuinely nice and friendly. It did not feel like one of those snooty spas, but rather a great place among friends. The spa itself is located in convenient location in downtown Savannah, and it is beautiful and clean. But more important than that, we never heard a peep from anyone running around in the halls or the other rooms the whole time we were getting our massage. It was very relaxing! Both of our massages were just as we requested. Our massage therapists were VERY knowledgeable and professional. They did great work!! We will be going back often. I highly recommend! Pros: Knowledgeable massage therapists and nice ambience with quiet massage rooms Cons: It is downtown Savannah so parking can be tough at times more
