Cozy, romantic West Village original 3/29/2008

Please ignore the highly antagonistic review about prices and food (is this a competitor?)..I love this restaurant. I live in the West Village, and whenever I go, they treat my guests like family. This is one of the few restaurants left that evoke the relaxed, cozy intimacy of our neighborhood. It has been run for almost 10 years by the owner, who often remembers your name. In the winter the great windows, warm candlelight and delicious pasta define romance. In the summer, it's wonderful to sit outside and watch the people go by (even with a puppy). We keep losing special gems like Valdino West to greedy landlords and pretentious phonies (check out SOHO Club lately) who need loud music, a meat market and the belief they are at the hottest place around. Let's hope VW survives and thrives long after these folks leave. Pros: authentic Italian food, romantic, cozy, undiscovered feel Cons: if you want the Meat Packing District, go there. more

Save your money and go to olive garden 5/18/2007

I'm very sorry to say but some of your reviews of this restaurant are grossly untrue, first of all I can't name a restaurant in this city that has a chicken cutlet parm dinner for $22.50, anyone who claims that this is great food must have just flew in from Alaska or just graduated from the olive garden. This place is by far the biggest rip off I have ever seen, aside from the gnocchi the food is OK at most, No wonder it's always empty. Pros: gnocchi Cons: everything else more

Great Food. Too Bad the service is just as pathetic 7/24/2006

As tasty as the food was, I was infuriated with the service ( or the lack thereof). Considering it's hardly ever crowded ( you'll always find a table there...no need for reservation) you'd expect the crew to be alittle more attentive more

Horrible service 10/8/2005

Appalling service, would not return, its too bad because the food was good. Pros: good food Cons: terrible service more

Our favorite local restaurant. 4/9/2005

My husband and I dine here about once a week and can't imagine our cozy neighborhood without Valdino West. EXCEPTIONALLY FRESH ingredients, inviting atmosphere, wonderful staff (owner Steffano knows what he's doing), and a nice view of the foot traffic on Hudson Street. We've sent many out-of-towners here when they ask for a ""local, 'New York-feeling' restaurant"" and all have raved. The prices aren't cheap, but the whole experience is well worth the bill. They even have a few larger tables for groups. more

Can't go wrong... 6/2/2004

You will not be dissapointed by any of the choices in the menu. The owner and staff go to great lengths to make you feel comfortable. They are by far the BEST past in New York. Feeling Romantic? Ask for the round corner table next to the large window. Enjoy! more

romantic with tasty food at great value 1/26/2004

I was pleasantly surprised with this cozy little restaurant. The food was delicious, must try the specials (esp veal osso bucco and seafood pasta). The portions are generous with prices very reasonably set. Pros: inexpensive, generous portions, cozy Cons: can get crowded more

Simply Delish 1/1/2004

The friendly chef-owner uses only fresh ingredients to create the best pasta dishes in the Village--if not in the whole City. Pros: Romantic, Large portions more

Undercooked Pasta 12/20/2003

Nice location, nice village space. Everything was fine, the pasta sauce was wonderful -- I think they forgot to cook my ravioli. Probably worth a second look. more

Still the best pasta 2/14/2003

I posted the 1st review of this restaurant (Perfect Pasta) and I just wanted to let you know that, 1 1/2 yrs later, it is still the BEST pasta in the city. Tonight is Valentine's Day, if you're looking for a great meal by candle light, you've found it! Pros: amazing pasta, sidewalk seating, great value Cons: zip more

Cozy & yummy 12/25/2002

Any Italian place that can make pasta taste interesting & different HAS to be good. This is a great neighborhood staple, or a good place to take a date. Romantic but not overly-so, rustic interior, casual local crowd. Good portions for the price, too. Pros: good portions, cozy, good food Cons: uncomfy seating more

good, affordable italian 11/2/2002

Nothing fancy, but the price is right. For a simple italian dinner out, this is a great choice. When the weather is good, eat outside on the sidewalk. The pasta dishes are great. Pros: simple, great pasta more

Mmmm! 10/1/2002

This has got to be the best place to go for an regular night out. The pastas here are amazing! Al dente perfect, with the perfect amount of sauce. The service is fair and the restaurant is very comfortable. I've never had a bad meal and recommend this place to everyone. Pros: Inexpensive, Comfortable more
